Worldbuilding Exchange
Jan. 26th, 2020 09:39 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Hi! Thanks for creating for me, or for otherwise taking a look at my letter. I’m @fencesit.ao3 on AO3! I'm requesting all fic for this exchange and in-universe meta as well for my Harry Potter request.
You may notice that I have less details or prompts for some fandoms/ships/mediums than others. Please don't take this as an indication that I want those things any less than other things! I very much desperately want everything I've requested, I've just had more time to request some things than others.
And: please don't feel like you need to follow one of my prompts to keep from disappointing me. I've provided all the information below in an attempt to help my writer feel confident in producing a gift for me, but if prompts and extra details don't work for you then feel free to ignore them.
I'm up for recursive fic of my own fic or recursive of gifts I've received in the past (assuming you have the author's permission). I couldn't think of any art stuff I particularly wanted this time around, but I'd be open to art treats if you want!
DNW:
- unrequested AUs (canon divergence is okay)
- cannibalism or vore
- necrophilia (ghost sex is fine)
- PWP
- sounding
- rimming
- bodily waste
- suicide/suicidal ideation
- vehicle accidents
- detailed or graphic descriptions/depictions of wounds, medical procedures, torture, etc.
- unrequested noncon
- anal tearing or other serious injury during sex
- incest (I may prompt brothers sharing a single spouse once or twice, and a) that's obviously fine and b) they can both fuck the spouse at the same time if you want, just please limit their sexual contact with each other to, preferably, zero.)
- dissociation, which includes:
- derealization — An alteration in the perception or experience of the external world so that it seems unreal.
- depersonalization — The persistent feeling of observing oneself from outside one’s body or having a sense that one’s surroundings/body aren't real.
- If you're writing a character who's literally having an out of body experience (like, because they're a ghost and something else has taken over their body) or dealing with a, actual fake world (like, because they're trapped in a magical illusion) then that's okay as long as the situation is clear to the reader, even if the character doesn't know.
- I don't mind underage characters having consensual sex with each other off-screen, I just don't want M or E rated descriptions of those events.
- anyone can die as many times as you want if it's going to be fixed via time travel or other means.
- magically preserved non-rotting undead like vampires or skeletons are fine
- Special SVSSS note: TLJ vaguely falls under this umbrella I guess? Please gently skip over too many details about that whole situation if he appears in your fic.
Likes
Fic likes:
- Canon divergence
- slice of life, canon-compliant fic, missing scenes from canon
- time travel
- especially peggy sue/with a fix-it focus
- time loops
- see my Past Imperfect letter!
- fake/fantasy politics/science and explorations of systems/relationships (eg magic systems, fictional governments or economies, the local gossip network)
- character backstory, noodle incidents, references to past canon or noncanon events, a sense of history between two (or more) characters
- vivid/specific details that relate to things like where a character is, what that location is used for, why, and how the character feels about it
- casefic/missionfic
- investigations/mysteries
- characters with specific goals or problems to solve (finding some treasure, getting a glass of water, murdering their nemesis)
- monster/murder/crime-of-the-week type plots
- the enemy of my enemy is my friend
- making friends under unusual circumstances
- A being uncertain of or surprised by how deep B's loyalty runs
- found family
- friends reconnecting after being out of contact for a long time
- signs of familiarity/intimacy, like knowing each other's habits really well or feeling comfortable touching them/being touched in a society where that's notable
- huddling for warmth and hypothermia fic!
- character convinced no one would help even if they asked (but someone does help!)
- character convinced there will be no rescue (but there is a rescue!)
- usually powerful character is helpless due to drugs (and at the mercy of someone they don't trust? :D)
- cynical/pessimistic/distrustful characters being proven wrong by things turning out better than they could have hoped for — for example: "I could never be loved!" -> Is absolutely loved, "We could never have peace." -> Peace is had
- aftermath of captivity, torture, rape, isolation, etc.
- injured character can't complete rescue mission without help from unlikely source
- lying so that the other will accept comfort or help
- hands too shaky to complete task
- forcing exhausted character to get some sleep
- characters who have to work hard to function in the same space and also characters who don't like each other — see my Hate Exchange letter!
- handcuffed together
- sharing a bed because they're safer together than apart
- captured together, working together in enemy territory
- 5+1
- drabble series
- outsider POV
- second person POV, especially if it's thematically relevant
- I'm not really into letters or social media fics, but articles, essays, textbooks, mission/case records, and wikipedia entries are all great.
- I've never received interactive fiction/CYOA before but I'm down to try it!
- I'm open to a mix of text and images and I view works with the creator's skin enabled. I do sometimes download my gifts or read them on mobile, however, so I appreciate when unconventional works use tricks like display:none (explained in this tutorial in the "What do I do if the Creator's Style is hidden?" section) which also makes works with HTML/embedded pictures more accessible!
- curses
- garbage-tier magical items
- extra senses
- worldbuilding around learning/doing magic
Ship likes:
- Anything on my general likes list is excellent in shipfic too of course. Also, I am a pretty big fan of understated shipfic — if you just put the characters together and show that they care about each other then I don't even need kissing or anything, really, which I think can work well for fandoms where characters are frequently in life-or-death situations or need to be professional. Not that kissing isn't welcome! Just, I am extremely easy to please on the "Is this shippy enough?" front.
- Slow burn, friends to lovers, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers — The slower the better. FWB-to-lovers is also great.
- Characters who have history with each other — established relationships are good, but what I really love is feeling like the characters know each other well and think about each other often. In characters who are already friends, that probably looks like, say, knowing what kind of coffee the other person likes. In characters who were enemies, they probably know each other’s weaknesses and faults really well.
- Arguments where each person thinks the conversation is about something subtly different — I mean, misunderstandings in general are great for tension, but I like it when characters are trying to communicate but they’re coming from perspectives so different that they can’t even argue without clarification.
- Casual physical affection — a lot of my ships involve people who have massive or very specific personal bubbles, so seeing the way the characters touch each other when they’re not already in Kissing Mode is really great.
- Pining, especially longstanding they-could-never-want-me pining — the id wants what the id wants and what the id wants is characters with low self-worth. Bonus points if it's tied up in some kind of misunderstanding about their relationship (eg, "They hate me!" or "I'm ugly!") or their differing rank/species/wealth/etc.
- When their hands touch and other very understated moments of romantic or sexual tension — aaaaaaa I don't even have words for how much I love this, if you include it I will wail happily at you about it in my comment, possibly at length.
Smut likes
I don't usually request smut but if you want to include it then I don't mind. I know that that's kind of an extremely bland and unenthusiastic way to start out but it's, uh, really honest, at least? I'm usually after character interaction, plot, or worldbuilding with my requests, but getting a sex scene along with other stuff definitely wouldn't ruin a gift. Overall, I want you to feel free to write sex if you would enjoy doing so/if you think the fic will be better with it! I'm generally just enthused by my writer getting to have fun writing something they're proud of, you know?
There are obviously some things I do like, and I know some folks really enjoy tailoring their fic (i'm one of them!) so:
- Extremely emotionally charged sex — No matter what kind of sex acts they do, I really love when the sex has a lot of feelings involved, especially if it's sad emotions or desperation or part of some hurt/comfort or whump.
- Sex that's very directly relevant to the plot or character arcs — I love sex scenes where I learn more about a character or relationship. Is 'character driven smut' a thing? Because if so, that's my favorite. And also porn with plot.
- anal and pegging, PIV, frottage, intercural, handjobs, all kinds of fingering, strapons, toys
- overstimulation and edging, orgasm delay/denial
- bondage — handcuffs, spreader bars, honor bondage, and honestly pretty much anything in the general category of restricting someone's movement during sex
- praise kink, loyalty kink, hurt/comfort, trust and sex otherwise overloaded with emotion
- magic/super powers being used in fun and inventive ways
- clothing/uniform kink, half-clothed sex, one naked and the other not.
- hair petting, cuddling, lazy mornings in bed, touch starvation
- size difference, size kink, come inflation, large insertions
- pregnancy, including mpreg — impregnation porn and pregnant sex welcome, eggpreg and het mpreg are also fine. And while we're talking about it, narratively speaking I love a fic where being pregnant/mpregnant is upsetting because the character didn't plan for it, thinks their partner doesn't want it, conceived in a nonconsensual or dubiously consensual way, can't afford it, etc, all of which could be comforted away with or without sex. I'm not much for birthing scenes.
- for noncon: humiliation, bruises/rough sex, manipulation, forced feminization (of men or women!), public/group sex, X made them do it
- probably other things that I'm forgetting! I'm pretty open to a bunch of things that aren't on the above list or mentioned in my DNWs, and if you're unsure if you should include something please feel free to ask through the mods.
Naruto
AO3 matching tag: Naruto
Fandom note: As a quick reminder, references to Boruto are in my DNWs — I haven't seen it, so that content would be wasted on me. On a related note, the end of Naruto, with Kaguya and stuff, didn't really do much for me, so I'm happy to pretend Madara was the final villain; the worldbuilding I'm interested in is unrelated to Kaguya anyway.
Requested medium: fanfiction
Naruto request 1 - Sakura, Kakashi
Characters:
- Haruno Sakura
- Hatake Kakashi
WB Tags:
- WB: Arranged Marriage & Alliances In The Hidden Village Era (Naruto)
- WB: Missions & Payment In The Hidden Village Era (Naruto)
- WB: Arranged Marriage & Alliances In The Warring Clans Era (Naruto)
Shipping note: I ship these two with each other, but prefer them to either get together when Sakura is an adult or for time travel shenanigans to lead to them being the same age. I also ship them with other people! In fact, I'll read shipfic about either of these characters with anyone if you're into it because I find them very shippable and I'm very very into the worldbuilding I've picked out. Even if I don't mention a ship below, just assume I'd say yes to it! Ships with OCs are definitely okay, also. I love OCs.
Kakashi/Sakura prompts, because that seems like the obvious place to start although I don't have my heart set on this ship:
- Under what circumstances would Sakura and Kakashi end up in an arranged marriage? How would they feel about it and how would it be perceived by others?
- Or: under what circumstances could Sakura end up engaged to someone for purposes of an alliance or other politics and if Kakashi wanted to stop it what would his options be?
- What if they were reincarnated into the past and had to try and navigate, say, being on opposite sides of the Senju-Uchiha feud?
Non-Kakashi/Sakura prompts, because maybe you're into other things and I support that:
- Sakura is probably a really great political match for anyone looking to ally with/have leverage over Konoha, and I'd love something about that.
- How does mission payment work? Can you renegotiate a mission in the middle of things? What did Kakashi end up doing about Tazuna's fake C-rank? Who decides what to charge? Do people ever get discounts?
- One of them physically time travels to the Warring Clans Era and has to find a clan to marry in to because the village doesn't exist yet and it's not safe to have no clan.
- One of them physically time travels to the Warring Clans Era and has to figure out how to join Konoha when there's no one to vouch for them — but it turns out straight up marrying into the village is a thing.
- One of them is reincarnated into the Warring Clans Era and has to figure out how to help the village happen without so much disastrous fallout.
Naruto request 2 - Tobirama, Madara
Characters:
- Senju Tobirama
- Uchiha Madara
WB Tags:
- WB: Missions & Payment In The Warring Clans Era (Naruto)
- WB: Arranged Marriage & Alliances In The Warring Clans Era (Naruto)
Shipping note: I don't think anyone will be surprised when I say shipwise I'm thinking of Tobirama/Madara. But I would also be open to other things! Tobirama/Mito, Madara/Sakura, Hashirama/Madara, etc. I'm only really interested in Tobirama/Izuna if it's full of friction and they still hate/distrust each other.
Prompts:
- How does getting paid work? Is it all money or is it sometimes, like, a portion of a farmer's crop or w/e? How much are clans able to research potential clients and the missions they send their people out on? How often do clients refuse to pay? How often do clients lie? How often do clients deliberately try to play two ninja off each other or otherwise take advantage of the Senju-Uchiha conflict?
- Are arranged marriages that lead to alliances common? Are there ways that clan form alliances without marriage, aside from the village? Did the Senju and Uchiha ever try to get allies to join in their conflict against each other, and did it ever work? How do each clan's views differ on marriages and alliances? How are they similar?
- One of them is stiffed by, lied to, or deliberately endangered by a client. How do they handle it? How does that influence future village policy?
- One of them is engaged to someone for a potential alliance. How does that go?
The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System
AO3 matching tag: 人渣反派自救系统 - 墨香铜臭 | The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System - Mòxiāng Tóngxiù
Fandom note: I'm pretty sure I've read all the available extras, so no worries about spoilers.
Requested medium: fanfiction
Shipping note: I'm not going to lie to you, SQH/MBJ and LQG/SQQ are my favorite, but for this exchange I'm really open to anything! Including any level of LBH/SQQ. And, of course, gen would be great too!
SVSSS request 1 - WB: Demon Economics & Politics (SVSSS)
Characters:
- Mòběi-jūn (SVSSS)
- Shàng Qīnghuá (SVSSS)
Prompts:
- Demons apparently can't make anything? Like...anything??? How do they have clothes and weapons, then? Where does Mobei-jun's ice castle come from? Did they use to be able to make stuff and then the knowledge was lost? Is there a curse?
- Is Airplane-bro curious about this at all? Does he accidentally start making MBJ very very rich by facilitating actual trade with humans, who are more than willing to buy crystals?
- What do other demons think of how close MBJ is to SQH? Or about how close MBJ is to LBH? Will MBJ need an heir? Is MBJ an eligible bachelor?
SVSSS request 2 - WB: Holidays Airplane-Bro Invented for Proud Immortal Demon Way (SVSSS)
Characters:
- Mòběi-jūn (SVSSS)
- Shàng Qīnghuá (SVSSS)
- Liǔ Qīnggē (SVSSS)
- Shen Yuan | Shen Qingqiu (SVSSSS)
Prompts:
- Airplane-Bro definitely invented some holidays that he probably now regrets and I would love some worldbuilding about A) their original context in PIDW and B) how SVSSS characters come to interact with them.
- In addition to ships mentioned above, I'd be interested in seeing SQQ and SQH get stuck having to navigate a holiday that was originally concieved for a wife plot.
- Both human and demon holidays welcomed.
- I'm interested in both couples getting caught up in stray wife plots and in the mundane every-day experience of living in a world like this. Like, did LQG ever get caught at an unfortunate holiday festival with YQY or original goods SQQ or (the horror!) both of them? Do people who work together often have to discuss which one of them is getting tied up if they wander into a Bondage God Worshiping Week?
SVSSS request 3 - Everything else
Characters:
- Liǔ Qīnggē (SVSSS)
- Shen Jiu | Original Shen Qingqiu (SVSSS)
- Shen Yuan | Shen Qingqiu (SVSSSS)
- Shàng Qīnghuá (SVSSS)
WB Tags:
- WB: Sect vs Non-Sect Dynamics (SVSSS)
- WB: The Unnamed Peaks & Peak Lords (SVSSS)
- WB: Theories/Investigations Into Shen Qingqiu's Sudden Personality Change (SVSSS)
Prompts:
- I will be so excited about anything from this list.
- Okay, my aforementioned love of socio-economic divides...like damn being a non-sect cultivator seems so hard? And so different from having a sect? And even the smaller sects seem really really different from big sects like Cang Qiong? If you would like a prompt, I'd love to know about Shen Jiu's early days on Qing Jing or read an AU where he stays a non-sect cultivator for longer. Or maybe something where plant-body!Shen Yuan gets to wander around long enough to deal with not having a sect.
- What are the other peaks like? Who runs them? What do they think about canon events?
- I absolutely refuse to believe that SQQ only had to pass that sword test for them to be sure nothing had possessed him, and I also think there's probably a camp that thinks it's Qi-diviation-related amnesia. Who thinks what? What do they do to investigate? Does SQQ notice?
Avatar: the Last Airbender
AO3 matching tag: Avatar: the Last Airbender
Fandom note: I've only seen a little bit of Korra and I haven't read any of the comics, I've just seen the ATLA cartoon. I don't mind you working in stuff from Korra but it will need to be explained.
Requested medium: fanfiction
Shipping note: I'd prefer a gen focus but don't mind mentions of canonical background ships. Non-canonical ships I like also include Sokka/Zuko and Sokka/Toph
WB: Wan Shi Tong's Library (Avatar)
Characters:
- Sokka (Avatar)
- Zuko (Avatar: the Last Airbender)
Prompts:
- After the dust of the war is settled, Sokka goes back to the library to apologize.
- After Zuko has at least started to put plans in motion to repair the Fire Nation's earthly relationships, he has to see to the spirit world...and that means making up for what Zhao did to Wan Shi Tong's library. And, of course, the Fire Lord must be the one to apologize on behalf of the nation.
- Sokka and Zuko go together.
- Sokka travels back in time and, while reliving his life, decides that this time he won't do anything that might get him attacked by the giant scary owl librarian...only to discover that Wan Shi Tong absolutely remembers what Sokka did.
- Anyway basically: how does the library work? Does Wan Shi Tong ever forgive an insult to his library? Has he had any luck rebuilding his Fire Nation section? What kind of stuff happens to you when Wan Shi Tong hates your guts because you personally crossed him? What kind of stuff happens when Wan Shi Tong has a bone to pick with your whole country? How do you fix that? Does the Avatar have to get involved?
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood & Manga
AO3 matching tag: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood & Manga
Fandom note: I've only seen the anime, not read the manga, but I'm fine with manga-only details!
Requested medium: fanfiction
Shipping note: Background ships are fine; I don't have any NOTPs. I like Ling/Lan Fan, Ling/Green, Ling/Lan Fan/Greed but would also be delighted with gen!
WB: Ishvallan Refugees In Non-Amestrian Countries (Fullmetal Alchemist)
WB: Mei & Her Clan's Economic/Political Change Of Fortune Post-Canon (Fullmetal Alchemist)
WB: Xingese Imperial Court Politics (Fullmetal Alchemist)
WB: Xingese Inter-Clan Politics (Fullmetal Alchemist)
WB: Yao Clan's Ninja Bodyguard Training (Fullmetal Alchemist)
Characters:
- Lan Fan (Fullmetal Alchemist)
- Mei Chang (Fullmetal Alchemist)
- Ling Yao (Fullmetal Alchemist)
Prompts:
- Ishvallans in Xing: how does that go for them? Is it hard? It's probably hard. I'd love something that touches on any of my requested characters talking to Ishvallan refugees in Xing after the events of the Promised Day — especially Mei, since she spent so much time with Scar, but Ling-the-emperor wanting to talk to some Ishvallans would be pretty cool too.
- I love socio-economic differences and I LOVE Mei needing Ling's protection post-series and I *especially love* that Ling was like "Hi, you're my found family so now also your entire clan is my found family, I'm ride or die!" and I would love any exploration of that. What's it like for Mei to return to Xing and tell her clan about it? Does Ling fo with her? What do other people thing? Do they run into any obstacles? How does court life change for Mei? (Had she even ever been to court before?)
- Speaking of courts and clans, anything pre- or post-series about Xing politics would be so cool.
- Finally, what's the training for people like Lan Fan like? What do other people think about it? What's the reaction like when she comes back with automail — maybe Xing doesn't have enough contact with automail to understand that she can do her usual ninjaing things and she has to retire from that and find something else to do?
Harry Potter - Books 1-7
AO3 matching tag: Harry Potter - Books 1-7
Fandom note: Honestly I'm pretty liable to get fuzzy about book vs movie canon, but I picked this fandom tag because I haven't kept up with Pottermore, JK Rowling's twitter, The Cursed Child, or the Fantastic Beasts movies.
Requested medium: fanfiction, in-universe meta
Shipping note: A great deal of things you could/are likely to write about Gilderoy Lockhart would take place during or before second year for Harry, Hermione, etc, and if that's the case I would prefer no shipping beyond the canonical crushes (eg, Ginny's embarrassing thing for Harry, lmao). If you're following one of my prompts that would make them older and you want a ship, I've leaned towards Harry/Hermione, Harry/Draco, Hermione/Ron, Harry/Luna but would welcome any combination of characters that you like! Or no pairings, that's fine too.
As far as shipping Lockhart goes, uh, honestly all I can think of is that he was probably up to hinky stuff in his personal life just like he was hinky in his professional life, and I don't mind that being explored. Non-hinky is fine too, though! If you have a rarepair, I would love to be convinced.
WB: Gilderoy Lockhart's Victims (Harry Potter - Books 1-7)
Characters:
- Gilderoy Lockhart (Harry Potter - Books 1-7)
I am interested in two kinds of fic here:
- Fic where Gilderoy Lockhart is the main character.
- Fic where Gilderoy Lockhart is the main subject, but maybe doesn't actually appear.
I was suddenly overcome with a passionate and surprising need for Lockhart fic while writing my Unconventional Fanworks letter, so if you have the time maybe you should read that part of it, even though I am obviously not expecting you to write me an unconventional fanwork.
Gilderoy Lockhart is a very interesting character! An excellent and stunning character! And also a horrible person, which just makes him better. Lockhart annoys his coworkers, endangers his students, ruins lives, lies, steals, probably cheats when possible, focuses only on himself, gives absolutely ludicrously terrible advice........... what more could you want to write about? Also, his various crimes were never made public and his victims never found, informed, or compensated, which is such a wonderful dangling tread to pull.
If you're looking for direction on my favorite characters, you really can't go wrong with Hermione, Luna, Harry, Draco, Ron, Sirius, or the Weasley twins... but really I'm here for Lockhart content! I would be delighted to receive different characters, OCs, and/or extremely minor canon characters.
Finally, I guess in the prompts below (mostly copied from my ToT letter) I am broadly interpreting this tag as talking about Lockhart's crimes. Like, I don't need Lockhart's victims to appear in great detail for the tag to be fulfilled, I just want to know more about what Lockhart did to them, and how, and maybe see some consequences for Lockhart.
Prompts:
- Lockhart stealing someone's memories or interacting with someone whose memories he stole.
- How did Lockhart get hired and why did Dumbledore make that choice? I'm fascinated. Dumbledore POV welcome.
- Actually in general, I'd love outside POV of Lockart.
- Lockhart regains his memory and stands trial.
- Lockhart never comes to teach at Hogwarts and instead the whistle gets blown on him erasing people's memories when he tries it on some character of your choosing. (Suggestions in case you need 'em, but really anyone is fine: Charlie, Bill, Hermione, Luna, Harry, Draco, Lupin.)
- Someone travels back in time to do something unrelated like destroy horcruxes, but still takes time out of their busy schedule to deal with Lockhart.
- Molly Weasley's reaction to learning that this author she was kinda embarrassingly infatuated with tried to erase Ron and Harry's memories.
- Post-canon, someone (Ron and/or Harry and/or Hermione?) tries to find all of Lockhart's victims.
- In the above-mentioned AU about Lockhart not teaching at Hogwarts, one or more characters investigate him and uncover his crimes. (Golden Trio welcome, would have a soft spot for Luna being included, and for a really wild minor character match up, maybe it could be Rita Skeeter?)
