You may notice that I have less details or prompts for some fandoms/ships/mediums than others. Please don't take this as an indication that I want those things any less than other things! I very much desperately want everything I've requested. And: please don't feel like you need to follow one of my prompts to keep from disappointing me. I want to read SO MANY ship manifestos and it's a little hard to even write this section because I'm so excited about it! In this section I will be using "ship manifesto" somewhat loosely to mean "any meta primarily focused on one or more character relationships" in an attempt to be as inclusive as possible for anything someone might want to write.

Fandoms

It's somewhat likely I won't be into the fandom you're writing your ship manifesto in! I would love to be lured into your fandom via ship manifesto, so if you have the time to add some fandom primer stuff to it (eg, where can I find it, should I watch/read the installments in a certain order, where does the cool part of the fandom hang out) then I would really appreciate that, especially if your fandom is rare, obscure, and/or foreign.

Additionally:

• Links to appropriate fan wiki pages would be appreciated.
• Or like, pictures of the characters?
• Don't worry about spoilers.
• If your fandom is a video game, I'll be easier to lure if you can point me at a good let's play.

Ship Manifesto Contents

If you want a little direction, or are wondering what the limits are, then:

Black Box Mediums

Style - Black Box (Jennifer Egan)-style Thought Transcriptions

I love the style Black Box is written in and I would absolutely love to see something written in that style. I'd really be happy with just about anything you want to write! In addition to the second person POV, features of this style that I really like include:

• The numbered sections! If you're going to write something set during the events of the story, then I'd love to have you use the scene number to let me know exactly when you're breaking in. (Eg, if you're diverging from canon in the middle of section 16, number your first scene 16, your section scene 17, etc.)
• The short paragraphs! Originally this story was released via twitter and inside the logic of the story thoughts are only recorded for the record when the Narrator makes the conscious choice to turn the recording device on. I don't necessarily need you to stick to paragraphs that'd fit inside a tweet, though.
• The narrative distance! The Narrator is recording her thoughts, but she's doing so as professional instructions and a record of her mission, plus she's gone through and trimmed down extraneous thoughts after getting home. It creates this really interesting, restrained effect where we're definitely literally inside the Narrator's head, but at the same time the Narrator is concentrated almost entirely on giving instructions and practical information. It creates this great distance between the Narrator's narrated thoughts and the narrator's self, which is the sort of thing that really makes second person POVs shine. It leaves lots of room for the Narrator to know and think and feel things that she also simultaneously cannot know, think, or feel.

Audio and/or Visual - 'A Softer World' Remix

I've always loved A Softer World's format! I think there are several ways you could go with this and all of them would be equally wonderful:

• You could use stock photos and screenshots from other works to create images for Black Box.
• You could draw them yourself, if you're ambitious!
• Instead of using A Softer World's existing comics, you could use words from Black Box to create a new ASW-style comic.
• I would love to see Black Box's words juxtaposed over the fandom of your choice! One of the fandoms mention in the crossover, in my letter, elsewhere on my journal, or even just a fandom you like even if you don't know if I know it.
• Some visuals I'd love to see from the short story in ASW remix form include: the isolated beach, the speedboat trip, the Alpha Beauty clutching her baby, and the helicopter.

Audio and/or Visual - Comic

I love comics! As with A Softer World remix above, I'd love something that uses quotes from the short story over visuals, whether you want to tell a new story or just illustrate part of the one we've already got. I think it would be really cool to see:

• A comic drawn from the Narrator's POV to mimic the thought transcription of the short story.
• A black and white comic! For some reason I always imagine Black Box in black and white.
• Extremely mundane and beautiful and slice-of-life-ish scenes contrasted with Black Box's somewhat dire narration.
• A mix of in-the-moment visuals and remembered visuals slipping in from the Narrator's thought transcription.
• Visuals: the isolated beach, the speedboat trip, the scene where the Narrator's Designated Mate has the Alpha Beauty leave but the Narrator stay for his conversation with the new host, the part 29 scene where the Alpha Beauty helps the Narrator up to the house after the Narrator is left behind by her Designated Mate, the Alpha Beauty clutching her baby, the Primal Roar, the helicopter, any and all other technology usage.

In-Universe Professional and Academic Documents - Interviews

I know not everyone will want to do thought transmissions, so I thought I'd give a second option! I'm always very fascinated by people who work very well with dialogue only, and I think that it would be very interesting to see the Narrator in a situation where she has to speak out loud instead of recording her thoughts.

I'd prefer a military/black ops-ish interview record (like, from her debriefing!) but some kind of judicial inquiry or end-of-life oral history project would also be really fun. This format would require having some kind of name for the Narrator, and please feel free to use whatever you want for that — an alias or identification number or a name you've picked out, wahtever you want!

Other Prompts for Black Box (+ Crossovers)

Again, anything in this fandom would be wonderful! But in case you need something to go off of and the mediums haven't sparked anything...

• An AU where the Alpha Beauty is with the same spy program as the Narrator and they team up, or honestly just anything where they're allies. I really loved the exchange in part 29 where the Alpha Beauty calls the Designated Mate a bastard for leaving the Narrator behind and I just... want more!!
• How does the Narrator deal with coming home? How does her husband deal? Maybe the Narrator is encouraged to continue to use the thought transcriptions for therapeutic journaling reasons.
• What was training like for the Narrator? Does she help train further women when she gets home? Anything that handles what this program does before and after missions would just be great.
• Bucky Barnes — Some part of this mission or the spy program brings the Narrator in contact with Hydra and thus the Winter Soldier, or maybe the Narrator's marks are Hydra and the mission is interrupted by post-TWS Bucky (and/or Steve, Sam, etc — I'm not picky), or the Narrator's escape is significantly more complicated than in canon and Bucky ends up rescuing her.
• Natasha Romanov — Natasha has been tasked with infiltrating the same marks; Natasha was involved in the Narrator's training; the Narrator's mission runs into a SHIELD mission such that Natasha is tasked with interviewing/interrogating the Narrator; the Narrator's escape is significantly more complicated than in canon and Natasha ends up rescuing her.
• Eliot Spencer — one of the marks in Black Box is Damien Moreau; pre-canon Eliot is sent to retrieve something at the home of the Narrator's Designated Mate or the "new host"; the Narrator's mission is to try to infiltrate Leverage International instead of her canon mission; the Narrator's mission intersects with a Leverage con.
• Parker — pre-canon Parker steals something at the home of the Narrator's Designated Mate or the "new host"; the Narrator's mission is to try to infiltrate Leverage International instead of her canon mission; the Narrator's mission intersects with a Leverage con.
• John Reese — Reese's CIA work overlaps with the Narrator's mission; the Machine sends Reese the Narrator's number.

I'm definitely not in the SVSSS fandom specifically or cultivation novels in general enough to know exactly what you'd even write meta about, so I'm not sure I have any specific prompts long those lines, but I love meta. Character-focused, worldbuilding-expanding, author-questioning... if you have thoughts I want to read them! I love both formal-ish essay-ish meta and more casual meta.

Written Work - Ship Manifesto

I only nominated two ships, but I'd love a ship manifesto for any ship you like! The "any fandom" section above has more info about what kind of ship manifestos I'd like to recieve, but it basically boils down to: why do you like the ship, and what do you think works about it both for the characters and for readers?

Also! I would actually love to receive an in-universe ship manifesto as written by any fan of Proud Immortal Demon Way.

I love maps! Something drawn by Airplane-Shooting-Towards-The-Sky or his fans for Proud Immortal Demon Way would be great, but so would something like maps from An Ding Peak showing the mountains, the other sects, the Demon Realm, etc.

Style - Non-Linear Narrative

Honestly I'm just very curious about this! Something told out of order sounds really interesting. Something where Shen Qingqiu is aware of the narrative going in the wrong order would be cool too — maybe the System is loading things in the wrong order?

In-Universe Publication - Case Report

I don't actually know much about case reports and I'm sure the case reports in a cultivation novel would be a lot different from the ones we have, but nevertheless I think it's a great way to frame a story. My first thought was something about Shen Qingqiu's poisoning, but I also think Luo Binghe's struggle with Xin Mo would be neat if you're up for it.

Mabel and Stan seem like the most likely to have an advice column and I would love to see either or both of them dishing out advice! Maybe a column where someone asks a question and both of them give responses?

Characters I'd love to see ask for advice: Multi-Bear, Lazy Susan, Marius von Fundshauser, Toot-Toot McBumbersnazzle (Blind Ivan), any of Pacifica's friends, Queen of the Manatees (somehow? maybe the Gravity Falls Gossiper has a really wide distribution), Gideon Gleeful, Ghost-Eyes, Sherif Blubs and/or Deputy Durland (which is a canon ship jsyk), and anyone from the list of unseen characters.

I'd love a museum brochure from the Gravity Falls Museum of History or from the Wax Museum of Mystery! If you're inclined to do so, having either annotated by a character would also be super fun.

Please, god, I want to read more of the Gravity Falls Gossiper's amazing articles, please do this for me. Write an article based on one of the known article titles, make up a new one, give me excerpts from several... I love in-universe newspaper articles!

I'd also be interested in a newspaper article about what Stan and Ford get up to on the high seas post-canon!

Mystery Shack Yelp reviews leap immediately to mind, but I'd love to see reviews of other local Gravity Falls places, like Greasy's Diner, Gleeful's Auto Sale, Granny Sweetkin's Yarnball and the other tourist traps, Hoo-Ha Owl's Pizzamatronic Jamboree, etc.

I'd also love to see Stan (or other proprietors!) responding to comments.

In-Universe Publication - Advertisement

I'd love to see any advertisement Stan has ever made in an medium. Newspaper print adds, magazine spreads, transcripts of radio spots or infomercials, flyers he's put up, billboards... whatever you want! Other Gravity Falls advertisements would be great too — like for the Tent of Telepathy, maybe! Or the other tourist traps!

(Also if you're going pure text, 1k of advertisement might be hard? In which case throw in Yelp reviews or whatever else you want!)

In-Universe Personal Documents - Postcards

I would be happy with just the text of what the postcards say or with a fancy HTML/picture deal. Whatever format you want!

• An AU where someone else is their second year teacher and Lockhart comes to teach them when the Golden Trio is older and even more willing to cause trouble. Maybe during 5th or 6th year?
• An AU where Lockhart never comes to teach at Hogwarts at all, but his crimes come to light anyway.
• Characters who I'd love to see have a hand in investigating, commenting, or witing: Hermione, the Lovegoods & the Quibbler, Rita Skeeter, Snape, Draco, Harry, Fred and George, McGonagall.
• Also a non-AU would be fine too! Maybe there was a canon-compliant hubbub about it that we just didn't hear about because Harry was at the Dursleys and then Sirius broke out?

There are so many excellent options for this!

• An investigative report about the mall/'s destruction/Will's disappearance/the lab/Barbara/anything else you can think of?
• Newspaper articles about any of the above mentioned things, especially about the aftermath of season 3 — so many people died!
• Wikipedia obviously doesn't exist yet in the show, but excerpts from future wikipedia pages would be great.
• I know I didn't request him specifically and he's not technically a Hawkins Townfolk, but I'd love for Murray Bauman to feature heavily because... well it just makes sense.

These are just styles I'd enjoy! Something taking place post-canon would be very excellent, but some kind of AU would also be excellent. I haven't read much meta in the Stranger Things fandom but I would love to read more on any topic. Worldbuilding extremely welcome.

Audio and/or Visual - Comic

I'd love a regular, narrative comic about whatever you want, but I'd also enjoy a comic with lyrics, poetry, or some other quote over top!

A few comic ideas:

• Steve & Robin working together, whether at Scoops Ahoy or the video rental store.
• Hawkins residents and their relationships with the things that go bump in the night.
• Hawkins PD has to deal with the mess at the mall knowing Hopper died there.
• Who found Alexi's body? (Did he maybe secretly survive?)

Audio and/or Visual - 'A Softer World' Remix

I've always loved A Softer World's format! I don't have anything very specific to add to this... I suppose, if you want to, I would love to see original art for this... but screen caps would also be great! Also, feel free to give me ASW remixes about any character, not just the ones I've requested.

...I know Yelp doesn't exist yet, but I really love reviews. I'm fine with a more modern AU or with an 80's Yelp equivalent, although I admit I have no idea how reviews of businesses worked in the 80's.

Ship likes:

• Slow burn, friends to lovers, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers — The slower the better. FWB-to-lovers is also great.
• Characters who have history with each other — established relationships are good, but what I really love is feeling like the characters know each other well and think about each other often. In characters who are already friends, that probably looks like, say, knowing what kind of coffee the other person likes. In characters who were enemies, they probably know each other’s weaknesses and faults really well.
• Arguments where each person thinks the conversation is about something subtly different — I mean, misunderstandings in general are great for tension, but I like it when characters are trying to communicate but they’re coming from perspectives so different that they can’t even argue without clarification.
• Cynical/pessimistic/distrustful characters being proven wrong by things turning out better than they could have hoped for — for example: "I could never be loved!" -> Is absolutely loved, "We could never have peace." -> Peace is had
• Casual physical affection — a lot of my ships involve people who have massive or very specific personal bubbles, so seeing the way the characters touch each other when they’re not already in Kissing Mode is really great.

Art likes

• soft colors, and also specifically moss green and all shades of purple, especially for slice-of-life and domestic pictures
• lineless art and thick lines and messy lines!
• dramatic lighting, especially if the moment is tense or dangerous
• cartoony styles
• realistic styles
• movement and foreshortening
• crosshatching, stippling, visible brushstrokes, and other techniques that let me see what the artist physically did with their pencil/brush/digital equivalent

Music likes

• Generally softer music with clear lyrics for fan songs because I want to catch your lovely words!
• Artists/groups I like: Lord Huron, Gregory Alan Isakov, Talking Heads, Regina Spektor, Panic at the Disco, Morningsiders, Bastille
• Groups I dislike: Coldplay, The Beatles, Gorillaz
• (Mostly I am providing the groups I dislike on the very off chance someone decides to treat me to a vid!)
