Ship likes:

Anything on my general likes list is excellent in shipfic too of course. Also, I am a pretty big fan of understated shipfic — if you just put the characters together and show that they care about each other I don't even need kissing or anything, really, which I think can work well for fandoms where characters are frequently in life-or-death situations or need to be professional.
Slow burn, friends to lovers, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers — The slower the better. FWB-to-lovers is also great.
Characters who have history with each other — established relationships are good, but what I really love is feeling like the characters know each other well and think about each other often. In characters who are already friends, that probably looks like, say, knowing what kind of coffee the other person likes. In characters who were enemies, they probably know each other’s weaknesses and faults really well.
Arguments where each person thinks the conversation is about something subtly different — I mean, misunderstandings in general are great for tension, but I like it when characters are trying to communicate but they’re coming from perspectives so different that they can’t even argue without clarification.
Casual physical affection — a lot of my ships involve people who have massive or very specific personal bubbles, so seeing the way the characters touch each other when they’re not already in Kissing Mode is really great.
Pining, especially longstanding they-could-never-want-me pining — the id wants what the id wants and what the id wants is characters with low self-worth. Bonus points if it's tied up in some kind of misunderstanding about their relationship (eg, "They hate me!") or their differing rank/species/wealth/etc.
When their hands touch and other very understated moments of romantic or sexual tension — aaaaaaa I don't even have words for how much I love this, if you include it I will wail happily at you about it in my comment, possibly at length.

Smut likes

I don't usually request smut but if you want to include it then I don't mind. I know that that's kind of an extremely bland and unenthusiastic way to start out but it's, uh, really honest, at least? I'm usually after character interaction, plot, or worldbuilding with my requests, but getting a sex scene along with other stuff definitely wouldn't ruin a gift.

There are obviously some things I do like, so here they are!

Extremely emotionally charged sex — No matter what kind of sex acts they do, I really love, especially if it's sad emotions or desperation or part of some hurt/comfort or whump.
Sex that's very directly relevant to the plot or character arcs — I love sex scenes where I learn more about a character or relationship. Is 'character driven smut' a thing? Because if so, that's my favorite.
anal and pegging, PIV, frottage, intercural, handjobs, all kinds of fingering
overstimulation and edging, orgasm delay/denial
bondage — handcuffs, spreader bars, honor bondage, and honestly pretty much anything in the general category of restricting someone's movement during sex

Dream Demon

Poor Dream demon gets no respect... I love this grumpy dude. Anything with him would be great, but consider specifically:

Dream Demon's POV of any canon event(s), but I'd be especially interested in his POV of the Endless Abyss (He probably had to guide Binghe through that, right?) or digging through Shen Qingqiu or Qiu Haitang's memories.
What kind of dream stuff did he and Luo Binghe get up to in the Demon Realm after they escaped the Abyss?
What if Dream Demon had dug into Shen Qingqiu or Qiu Haitang's memories earlier?

Liu Mingyan

We don't see nearly enough to Liu Mingyan and I'd love to see more of her!!

I think the canon POV I'm most interested in is her POV of Liu Qingge becoming friends with Shen Qingqiu and then eventually spending five years trying to get his body back, but her POV of anything would be great.
Liu family backstory would also be extremely welcome. I think one of the extras establishes that she and LQG had excellent parents at some point (about which Shen Jiu was jealous?) but the novel says that LQG and LMY are each other's only family. SY might have just been mistaken (assuming that because no other family was mentioned for LMY in PIDW, none existed, when really LMY just didn't want to take LBH home to meet her folks lol) but on the other hand maybe LQG and LMY's parents died at some point between LQG's time as a disciple and canon starting?
Does Liu Mingyan have aspirations besides just cultivating? Being a well-known author, maybe, lmao. How's that going for her? Does she have publishers she has to deal with?
What's her relationship like with Bai Zhan Peak disciples? With Yang Yixuan?

Liu Qingge

Liu Qingge is my favorite and I can't hide it from you. My heart goes !!!!!!!! over him. So strong! And loyal! And pining! And fighty! And aaaaa!!!!

Canon POVs! Anything is good, but LQG's POV of the accusations against SQQ and SQQ subsequently being arrested would be amaaazing. Also, any canon compliant LQG POV of Shen Jiu.
Like LMY: Liu family backstory?
Liu Qingge must do something to keep Bai Zhan Peak running, right? Even if it's just a lot of delegating? What does it look like when LQG comes back to his peak?

The Airplane extra mentions that An Ding Peak sometimes "deliver blood replenishing talismans and pills when Bai Zhan Peak was in the thick of battle with resentful spirits"! Has Shang Qinghua ever brought that kind of backup for LQG?
In an AU where Shen Yuan doesn't transmigrate into SQQ, Shen Jiu remembers Shang Qinghua's advice from Part 4 of the Airplane extras: "If, in the future, you see someone going into qi deviation, do not panic, and do not rashly go up thinking you can save them. You must stay calm and go call for help, do not make a move yourself... [etc]"

Ming Fan

Ming Fan really interests me because he's kind of uhhh a huge asshole at the beginning of the book but from what we see of him later it seems like he's probably matured, probably partially because of SQQ|SY's direct influence on him and Qing Jing Peak and partially because of canon events. I really, really want his character explored in literally any fashion.

Canon POVs: Ming Fan during the years Luo Binghe was presumed dead and SQQ was mourning, Ming Fan's POV of SQQ being arrested and dying, Ming Fan's POV of post-canon stuff, Ming Fan and Ning Yingying and other desciples dealing with SQQ's change in personality.
In the Airplane extras (can you tell I was rereading them as I wrote this letter lmao) it's mentioned that Ming Fan's family has a tea farm and that SQQ sent a bunch of high-quality tea leaves to Bai Zhan. First of all, this is cute, but second of all, a Ming Fan POV of any part of that would be great.
Original Ming Fan welcome! I know he died in PIDW so something exploring that canonical death would be fine.
Also, anything about the way Shen Jiu as Peak Lord influenced him compared to Shen Yuan.
Does anyone ever talk to Ming Fan about how dangerous purposefully giving a false cultivation manual to someone is? Does Ming Fan ever regret it? It's basically on the level with attempted murder (or so one of the SJ extras implies) and I just... wonder if Ming Fan even knew that when he gave LBH the wrong cultivation manual?
Ming Fan backstory! He's from a rich family that gives him gifts and iirc maybe visits him. Is he a first son, meant to go back to the family after getting educated on Qing Jing, only to become too committed to helping SQQ to go back? Is he instead a second son, with no inheritance waiting for him?

Mobei-jun

Mobei-jun is one of those characters that snuck up on me, but I love him a lot. He's so stoic in canon that I'm incredibly thirsty for pretty much anything from his point of view, plus I'd just love some worldbuilding about demons!

Canon POVs: Mobei-jun's point of view of any part of the Airplane extras, his POV of the Immortal Alliance Conference, and his POV of Shang Qinghua diving down to save him because he can't fly would all be extremely perfect.
I'd love to see Mobei-jun meeting Luo Binghe when he's fresh out of the Endless Abyss.
An AU where demon nobles who owe someone a life debt traditionally marry their savior to wipe the debt clean.
In the Airplane extras Luo Binghe asks a room full of demons for love life advice. Has he frequently asked MBJ for advice?
What other kinds of demon worldbuilding did Airplane-bro make up and then immediately forget? Is there anything he remembered, correctly or incorrectly?
How, um, how exactly do demon lordships work? They own land I guess? Because they're strong? But like, are there taxes? Crops or livestock? Infrastructure and industry? What are the logistics and, followup question, does SQH end up putting his An Ding logistics knowledge to use sorting out Mobei-jun's stuff, or does Mobei-jun handle it himself, or are there trusted/untrusted vassals, or...?

Ning Yingying

I love Ning Yingying and I think she occupies a really interesting place in canon, especially with regards to how her relationships with Luo Binghe and Shen Qingqiu change. Anything about her would be so wonderful!

Ning Yingying backstory! I think its apparent that she was pretty sheltered and spoiled. Is her family rich like Ming Fan's? Did her family ever expect her to marry anyone, and if so how did she balance those kinds of expectations with her attachment to Qing Jing Peak?
A look at Ning Yingying's cultivation progress would be interesting. Do she and Ming Fan train together? Does she have friends or enemies on other peaks that she goes on missions with?

Gravity Falls fic prompts

I love the main cast, obviously, but lately I've been craving some minor characters! I don't mind any of the main cast showing up, but I'd also love to see things set away from the main cast, before canon, during the fall/winter/spring after canon while the Pines are gone... Gravity Falls is an amazing setting with amazing side characters and I just wanna explore them.

Most of these are extremely minor characters, so let's maybe do them nice and quick:

Celestabellebethabelle — I love this annoying pony. I'd love to see her punking Ford back in the day (I mean, I assume unicorns are unfairly long-lived, too?) or trying to get back at those girls who roughed her up! Or, maybe... I mean, unicorns are valuable, surely? Maybe someone captures her to use for parts and she needs to be rescued! Everyone loves a dramatic rescue. Bonus points if it's also an minor set of characters doing the rescuing like... idk, Wendy's friends?
Ghost-Eyes — I would love to see Ghost-Eyes use his philosophy degree. Or something set during Weirdmageddon, or post-canon... also, anything about him and Gideon Gleeful's friendship! How'd they meet?
Gompers — I love this weird goat and I would love anything even weirder about him. Like... I would love someone to discover that Gompers is not just a goat. Or anything from the trivia section on the wiki. Is Gompers cursed into being an immortal goat by some witch? Also, the idea of Stan with a baby goat is really cute.
Hand Witch — I love the Hand Witch and I would love for her to find love! Or to curse some folks, or both. How do things go with that handsome hiker? Also, hey, do you think Hand Witch and Multibear live on the same mountain? Are they neighbors? Does Hand Witch have to deal with the manotaurs? I would also love a 5+1 fic about 5 relationships that didn't work out for Hand Witch and one that did.
Invisible Wizard — Really just anything about the invisible wizard! Who probably should not be kissing Grenda and also maybe has lipstick? I would be very easy to please on this front because I have, like, no ideas. I just love this set of jokes.
Multi-Bear — Multi-Bear is my favorite minor character. I would love to see him being friends with Grenda and Candy post-canon or otherwise hanging out with people.
Rock That Looks Like A Face Rock — Where did rock that looks like a face rock come from? Could it be supernatural? Is the fact that tourists can't remember that it's a rock that looks like a face some kind of curse?
Shape Shifter | Experiment #210 — My favorite villain! Very spooky! Got its ass kicked by Wendy! Possibly still gonna unfreeze some day and need its ass kicked again! Please spook me with the past adventures of this creature or the further adventure of this creature, I love him. Also, are there other shapeshifters?
Steve the Giant Tree-like Behemoth — Steve stole Ford's car and once threw a deer at him. Very rude! Maybe life was rough for Steve in the 80's. Has it improved since? Does he like Stan any better? What about Mabel and Dipper? Wendy almost got send to work at her cousin's logging camp for the summer... do you think the logging camp or Wendy's father have ever run into Steve while lumberjacking, and if so how'd that go?
The Gremloblin — I love this monster and I would love anything about it. How did Ford encounter it? How did Dipper capture it? Does it ever long to look into another being's eyes without causing them unimaginable terror? Does it every have to get glasses like its father?

Haruno Sakura

Sakura!!! I love her and I'm very excited at the idea of getting fic about her.

Sakura learning stuff at the hospital, being in charge of the emergency room for the first time, dealing with a friend's serious wound for the first time, learning from Tsunade or Shizune or even an OC.
Mokuton!Sakura is very, very welcome. Hokage Sakura? Please indulge me.
I really like Sakura's parents as civilians, honestly, and I'd love anything that focuses on the tension between her background and her chosen career.

I feel like Kakashi and Gai's challenges have probably caused considerable trouble or collateral damage at least once and I'd love to hear about it.

Okay, I know. I know you're maybe squinting at this name like, "Um, who??" but I'm here to tell you that he's great. Rouga Nadare is the lead enemy ninja from the Land of Snow movie, and he totally pathetically wants to be Kakashi's rival. Here, let me just c/p what I asked for in Pining Exchange:

In the movie, he’s really pissed off that ten years ago — when Kakashi was like 16? — Kakashi fucked him up with Nadare’s own jutsu. At the end of the movie Kakashi beats him again with just taijutsu and tells Nadare what a waste of time his fancy Land of Snow armor is and that he should have spent his time actually training his body.

So like... listen.... Nadare totally spent those ten years pining for Kakashi to be his rival, right? And then Kakashi destroyed him because he already has the best possible eternal rival at home!

On the less iddy side of things, I'd love to see anything about the village coming together, including city planning, negotiating treaties, etc. I love logistics and worldbuilding AND I would love the emotional parts around that — like, the moment Hashirama realizes that Tobirama is genuinely helping this thing happen even though he doesn't trust the Uchiha.

This is to say, I really really want fic about Lockhart, but my definition of "about Lockhart" definitely extends to two non-Lockhart characters having a conversation about him. I've included a note about this in my AO3 sign up where I won't be able to change it, so you're good to go if you want to write about Lockhart without having him show up in the fic. I think that considering he spends the majority of canon locked up in St. Mungos without his various crimes ever being addressed, this is the best way to handle asking for canon-compliant Lockhart fic that deals with the fallout of him erasing a bunch of people's memories.

Why I'm requesting Gilderoy Lockhart and some general HP thoughts

Alright first I should say, I was suddenly overcome with a passionate and surprising need for Lockhart fic while writing my Unconventional Fanworks letter, so if you have the time maybe you should read that part of it, even though I am obviously not expecting you to write me an unconventional fanwork.

Gilderoy Lockhart is a very interesting character! An excellent and stunning character! And also a horrible person, which just makes him better. Lockhart annoys his coworkers, endangers his students, ruins lives, lies, steals, probably cheats when possible, focuses only on himself, gives absolutely ludicrously terrible advice........... what more could you want to write about? Also, his various crimes were never made public and his victims never found, informed, or compensated, which is such a wonderful dangling tread to pull.

In terms of Harry Potter fic in general, it was one of the first fandoms I was ever in and all of the fic tropes are wonderful. I don't really care about strict adherence to canon (eg, what spells canonically exist) and I would welcome even cheesy tropes like the Gringotts goblins being extremely helpful if only you treat them nicely and trunks with whole apartments in them and etc etc. On the other hand, I'd also of course love trope subversions or no tropes!

If you're looking for direction on my favorite characters, you really can't go wrong with Hermione, Luna, Harry, Draco, Ron, Sirius, or the Weasley twins... but really I'm here for Lockhart content! I would be delighted to receive different characters, OCs, and/or extremely minor canon characters.

How did Lockhart get hired and why did Dumbledore make that choice? I'm fascinated. Dumbledore POV welcome.

Post-canon, someone (Ron and/or Harry and/or Hermione?) tries to find all of Lockhart's victims.

I think that this comic implies that Polo has been absolutely completely punked by whoever told him about the "Marco Polo" call-and-response, whether purposefully or accidentally, because... presumably "Marco" is Marco's true name, which Polo has now said to Marco, possibly thereby granting Marco his soul, or the demon equivalent thereof?

How very awkward.

So... what does owning this demon's soul mean for Marco? What would Polo have done if he had owned Marco's soul? Who told Polo about the "Marco Polo" call-and-response?

I would love Marco & Polo or Marco/Polo! I'd also love either worldbuilding or a more emotional/character-focused look at things. Or both!

Strange Trails art prompts

I seem to remember that a lot of Lord Huron's Instagram posts were black and white ink sketches, and I would love to see anything in that kind of style — I'm also just a huge fan of work produced for inktober, so please feel free to double up on challenges as long as you don't mind keeping the sketch for me held back until creator revels, of course!
I love the visuals in "Until the Night Turns" about the end of the world, a visitor, a sign in the midnight sky, etc.
The Phantom Riders, especially Johnnie, are favorites of mine! I'd love to see art that captures the wild and reckless and unrelenting feeling of "Hurricane", the events of "Dead Man's Hand", etc. (Although per my DNW: please do not actually illustrate the motorcycle accident in "Dead Man's Hand", I'm more interested in the events that occur after Buck Vernon rolls up on a dead body.)

"Fool For Love" was the first song I heard off this album and any visuals from it — Buck Vernon's imagined life with Lily? His fight with Big Jim? — would be amazing.

Strange Trails fic prompts

Buck Vernon

Buck Vernon is listed as the narrator for Dead Man’s Hand, Fool For Love, Cursed, and Louisa.

Dead Man's Hand has a really excellent, contained story about Buck Vernon trying to lay a dead guy to rest and I would just adore seeing any part of it written out narratively! I love the interpretation that the dead man is Johnnie (and I think that "there ain't no thrills in the afterlife" matches up very very well with lines in "Hurricane"!)
If you maybe don't want to write something as described in the song (which would be very reasonable) I'd love to see something where Buck and the dead man meet again.
Lily's point of view of Fool For Love would be great — what does Buck look like to her?
Buck's situation in Cursed seems extremely dire! How does he escape it — or is Cursed about Louisa, and Buck doesn't escape so much as eventually get too ensnared to escape? If so, maybe he could eventually be rescued by his friend the dead man?
Also, finally Lousia! An interpretation of the song where Buck is just being hyperbolic about how much he loves and appreciates Lousia would be good, of course, but if you're up to write about something where Lousia is a literal necromancer who raised Buck from the dead following the events of Fool For Love I'd adore that.

Francine Lu and Claude Fox

Francine Lu is listed as a narrator for Love Like Ghosts, Meet Me in the Woods, and The Night We Met. Meet Me In The Woods is also listed for Claude Fox. I'd love to know more about their relationship and more about Francine in general, who according to liner notes on The Night We Met is "an older woman who sings in a bar." (Also, her last name might be Lou? I don't actually own this album physically and the Genius notes vary.)

I'd love to get a fic about the night Francine and Claude met! I would also love to have it include time travel — does Francine tell herself not to right along with Claude, as the song suggests? To or from where was that ride?
I think there are a lot of really interesting ways to interpret these three songs (and maybe parts/themes of other songs) into fic and I don't want to do too much analysis to block anyone in, but I'd love anything that explores which of these two had the unrequited love, which of them left and saw terrible things and then came back changed, etc.
(Okay, also, I love the use of ghosts as a metaphor for love and I would also love something where one of them can see ghosts! I love the lines "All the spirits that I know I saw / Do you see no ghost in me at all?" for meaning something like "I see love everywhere, do you really think that I can't love?" while also basically meaning "Do I seem to have no soul?" especially in the context of some kind of romantic/sexual relationship.)

D. Redmayne and the Phantom Riders

D. Redmayne and the Phantom Riders are listed as narrators for Until the Night Turns, Hurricane (Johnnie’s Theme), and The World Ender.

I would love to see a scene of the "visitor from the great beyond" coming to give the vision described in the first two verses and also the ensuing push to stay up until the world ends.
Johnnie is presumably a Phantom Rider and I really like the interpretation that he's both the dead man in Dead Man's Hand and that he's The World Ender — I know there's a comic book that kind of contradicts that interpretation, but Johnnie's POV in Hurricane matches up so wonderfully with the dead man's reasons for not wanting to be buried.
I'd also just love something about Johnnie coming "right on back" for the "little darlin'" the chorus is directed at.
It's not really clear how the Phantom Riders and the World Ender and Johnnie are exactly meant to relate, and I'd really love any kind of interpretation of it. I'd be interested in anything that handles the lines "I was 6 feet down, but something raised me up / Sent back for to lift my curse / I’m gonna get me a taste of some chaos first" — what curse? What lifted him up? If Johnnie isn't the World Ender, does he maybe have similar power, and can he oppose the World Ender? It seems like he might just to feel alive.
The narrator for Meet Me in the Woods isn't directly related to the events of Until the Night Turns, Hurricane (Johnnie’s Theme), and The World Ender, but I think the theme of coming back wrong and etc would be very interesting to play with.

Remy Fusil

Remy Fusil is listed as the narrator of La Belle Fleur Sauvage.

Remy is on a probably doomed quest for a legendary immortal beauty! What a dumbass.
I would love to know more about the immortal goddess this song describes and about Remy who thinks he can "pluck" her so that he can "love" her and then have her in his grave with him. I kind of suspect that this immortal lady up on her mountain will not be about that plan at all. Does Remy die? Does he get a darkened heart and phantom pains?
I also love that this ties into other themes on the album about going to places you shouldn't go, seeing places you shouldn't see, and getting yourself into trouble via love.

H.W. Justine

H.W. Justine is listed as the narrator of Frozen Pines. I don't have as many prompts for this song but It's actually my favorite on the album!

It's just so haunting and lonely and mysterious? The isolation and uncertainty are top-notch and I would love any fic that captured those.
I wonder who H.W. Justine/the narrator is waiting for, and what happened to them, and why all their friends are maybe dead, etc.
My brain has been on ghosts a lot recently and this song always makes me think the narrator is maybe a ghost.
