Unconventional Fanworks 2020
May. 15th, 2020 10:36 pm
Hi! Thanks for creating for me, or for otherwise taking a look at my letter. I’m fencesit on AO3!
You may notice that I have less details or prompts for some fandoms/ships/mediums than others. Please don't take this as an indication that I want those things any less than other things! I very much desperately want everything I've requested. And: please don't feel like you need to follow one of my prompts to keep from disappointing me. I've provided all the information below in an attempt to help my writer feel confident in producing a gift for me, but if prompts and extra details don't work for you then feel free to ignore them.
Navigation:
- DNWs
- Creator's Choice of Fandom
- Black Box - Jennifer Egan
- The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System - Mòxiāng Tóngxiù
- Naruto
- Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling
- Gravity Falls
- Blue Castle - L. M. Montgomery
- The Adventure Zone (Podcast)
- Likes (Banished to the bottom for this letter! Includes: Fic likes, ship likes, art likes, smut likes.)
Treats
- I would be happy to accept treats in any medium in the tagset, although there are some I will be politely baffled to receive (I don't know how to cross stich, for example, lmao).
- Treats with audio or video components in mediums I haven't requested may take me longer to consume than written or static visual works.
DNW:
DNWs for mediums under the "Fandom -" category
Mediums under the "Fandom" category will produce works describing, analyzing, listing, or otherwise directly engaging with the canon of whatever fandom you've chosen. I don't expect you to compromise on engaging with your canon because I really want you to make the best work you can, and it wouldn't be fair or enjoyable for either of us for you to have to bend yourself into a pretzel trying to, idk, explain Game of Thrones things without mentioning incest.
Therefore, if you're making a work for me in a medium under the "Fandom -" category, I DNW:
- mention/discussion of vehicle accidents, dissociation, suicide/suicidal ideation, or archive warnings without content warnings (tags or author's note is fine!)
- images of real injuries or blood (including small scratches or bruises)
- images of real dead things (including taxidermy, skeletons, and animal bones/skulls, but not including food-context things)
- any visual of vehicle accidents, including images, gifs, doodles, etc
DNWs for all other mediums
If you're making a gift for me in a medium besides the Fandom category mediums, I DNW:
- unrequested AUs (canon divergence is okay)
- cannibalism or vore
- necrophilia (ghost sex is fine)
- PWP
- sounding
- rimming
- bodily waste
- suicide/suicidal ideation
- vehicle accidents
- unrequested noncon
- anal tearing or other serious injury during sex
- incest
- sex scenes with underage (under 18) characters
- detailed or graphic descriptions/depictions of wounds, medical procedures, torture, etc.
- photographs of real injuries, blood, or dead things
- sickfic
- specifically: I DNW characters being unwell because of illness and I DNW coughing, sneezing, nose-blowing, and vomiting.
- dissociation, which includes:
- derealization — An alteration in the perception or experience of the external world so that it seems unreal.
- depersonalization — The persistent feeling of observing oneself from outside one’s body or having a sense that one’s surroundings/body aren't real.
- If you're writing a character who's literally having an out of body experience (like, because they're a ghost and something else has taken over their body) or dealing with a, actual fake world (like, because they're trapped in a magical illusion) then that's okay as long as the situation is clear to the reader, even if the character doesn't know.
- anyone can die as many times as you want if it's going to be fixed via time travel or other means.
- magically preserved non-rotting undead like vampires or skeletons are fine
- including using characters from other canons as stand-ins for OCs, even if the character or their appearance in the fic is very minor.
- including borrowing worldbuilding/magic systems/artifacts/alien races/etc.
- definitely fine for characters to know about or reference anything you think it's reasonable for them to have consumed as media, e.g. modern mundane characters have probably heard of Star Wars.
SVSSS DNWs/clarifications:
- DNW focus on Luo Binghe/Shen Qingqiu in fics for other ships.
- TLJ vaguely falls under the umbrella of rotting undead, I guess? Please gently skip over too many details about that whole situation if he appears in your fic.
Black Box DNWs/clarifications:
- DNW: erotic fanworks of any kind; characters can have sex but I don't want porn.
- Please disregard my dissociation DNW for this canon.
- Please consider me to be opted=-in to canon-typical levels of dubcon/noncon.
Naruto DNWs/clarifications:
- DNW Relationships/plot development/worldbuilding from Boruto
- Killing Uchiha Izuna is always fine in whatever way you want.
- Edo Tensei count as magically preserved for the rotting undead/zombies DNW, so you're fine to include them if you want.
Harry Potter DNWs/clarifications:
- It's fine for Lockhart to die or be dead.
The Adventure Zone DNWs/clarifications:
- I think the McElroys have been careful not to overlap Balance, Amnesty, and Graduation's universes, so I would consider doing so a crossover. I think there may be some small exceptions (the goof about Clint McElroy the janitor, maybe?) but, well, I would really like things to stay as separate as possible! I like each one as its own thing, despite having piled them all in here like this.
Creator's Choice of Fandom
AO3 matching tag: Creator's Choice of Fandom
Fandom note: I'm REALLY into meta and frequently consume it for fandoms I've never even heard of before. Last round my request like this one for just ship manifestos went super well, so I'm expanding this request!
It's pretty likely I won't be into the fandom you're writing about, so if you have the time to add some fandom primer stuff to it (eg, where can I find it, should I watch/read the installments in a certain order, where does the cool part of the fandom hang out) then I would really appreciate that, especially if your fandom is rare, obscure, and/or foreign.
The pinned post on my Dreamwidth does have a list of fandoms I'm familiar with or have osmosed, so if you check that you might be able to save yourself some work, but let me stress again that I would LOVE to get a fill for this request telling me all about some aspect of a fandom I've never heard of.
Requested character(s)/ship(s):
- Group: Creator's Choice of / Ship
- Group: Creator's Choice of & Ship
- Creator's Choice of Character
Shipping note: Do literally whatever you want, completely ignoring anything else I say about shipping in this letter or on EAD or whatever.
All Requested Mediums:
- Fandom - Character Analysis
- Fandom - Fandom Primer
- Fandom - Meta About A Popular Trope Or Piece Of Fanon
- Fandom - Meta About Something That Disappointed You
- Fandom - Platonic Relationship Analysis
- Fandom - Ship Manifesto
Fandom - Character Analysis
Tell me all about your fave!!!! or your least fave. Or a minor character you think has been overlooked. Or just...whoever you're lowkey obsessed with. Here are some questions in case you need a place to start:
- What makes them tick — why do you think they do the things they do?
- What do you think of the way they treat other people?
- Are there any prevalent misconceptions about them you'd love to clear up?
- What's the worst thing they've ever done?
- Do they have a foil/are they a different character's foil?
- What's the saddest thing about them?
- Who do they get along with the best/the worst and why?
- What do you think their character arc is? What do you wish it had been?
- Did the narrative ever do them dirty?
Fandom - Fandom Primer
I think one of the hardest things to do is get into a new fandom and I wish that fandom primers were more of a thing! For this freeform I would just really love to know what your fandom is all about and how I can get into it. Maybe try to answer questions like...
- What is the premise? Does it have any sweet sweet tropes?
- Who are the main characters? What are the big ships, if there are any?
- Where do people post fanfiction/fanart? Are there any other kinds of fanworks that are popular in the fandom?
- Where do people talk and what do they talk about? Do they use any jargon/abbreviations/other special vocab?
- I'm not expecting an in-depth history or anything, but is it a new or old fandom? If it's old, and you've been around for awhile, how has it changed?
- If you're comfortable talking about your own fannish experience, why do you like the fandom?
For our purposes I think the definition of "fandom" can be pretty lose — if all the shippers of your favorite ship stick together and that's the only part of your fandom you know, tell me about the A/B fandom! Or, if you're into some kind of fannish subculture like fantranslating stuff or cosplay or Skyrim modding or, I don't know, really loving the hell out of theme parks or something, I'll take a fandom primer on that!
Other notes:
- Don't worry about spoilers.
- If your fandom is a video game, I'll be easier to lure if you can point me at a good let's play.
- If your fandom is a podcast, I'll be easier to lure if you can point me to transcripts.
- For your convenience, I will mention that I live in the US and I have Netflix and Amazon Prime. Also cable.
- Although, really, don't feel like you have to limit yourself to fandoms you think you can lure me into, I'd also be excited just to hear all about a corner of fandom I'm not a part of!
Fandom - Meta About A Popular Trope Or Piece Of Fanon
When I nominated this I was thinking about a trope specific to your fandom, but on further reflection I'll actually also definitely take meta about more general tropes, too! I'm interested to know things like:
- Do you like or hate this trope/fanon?
- Why do you think it's popular?
- Where did it come from?
- Do you have any recs for good examples of the trope or fanon?
Fandom - Meta About Something That Disappointed You
Yes, I'm basically asking you to complain at me. Some of the best meta I've read is just people being salty as fuck that canon did them dirty, so I'd LOVE to know what's been bothering you about your canon. Things like:
- The ending SUCKED and you're NEVER going to be over it.
- Your fave is a victim of OOC writing because the writing room of your show is full of hacks.
- They COULD have resolved this plot hole, but did they? No, of course not.
- That minor character was amazing and it's a crime they didn't come back again and again.
- They made your ship canon but they're TERRIBLE at writing romance so they just absolutely ruined everything you liked about it.
Fandom - Platonic Relationship Analysis
I think there's some fuzziness between this and ship manifestos — I think you could write a gen manifesto to argue for how dang good characters are as platonic found family, for instance — but if I had to guess at the biggest difference I think that this freeform doesn't argue for the existence of/recognition of a ship of any kind, but instead probably looks at a (specifically platonic) relationship that already exists and digs into it...which sounds rad!
Given that I probably don't know your fandom I confess I'm hoping for background on who the characters are and lots of canon excerpts, but that's not strictly necessary of course. Here are some questions about whatever platonic relationship you have in mind in case you want a direction to go in:
- Are the characters primarily family, friends, coworkers, enemies...? Would they each give the same answer to that question at all times throughout canon?
- What do they think of each other, and what do they think the other thinks about them?
- What do the characters misunderstand about each other, and why?
- How has their relationship changed?
- What's their primary motivation for interacting?
- What kind of secrets, if any, do they keep?
- What interests you about their relationship?
Fandom - Ship Manifesto
I want to read SO MANY ship manifestos and it's a little hard to even write this section because I'm so excited about it! The ship manifestos I got last time were AMAZING so I'm so excited to request this again. In this section I will be using "ship manifesto" somewhat loosely to mean "any meta primarily focused on one or more character relationships" in an attempt to be as inclusive as possible for anything someone might want to write.
Please write whatever you want and ignore the below notes if you've got a good idea of where you're going already!
If you want a little direction, or are wondering what the limits are, then:
- Het, slash, femslash, and even queerplatonic or gen would be good. Also incest, poly, RPF, and anything else I'm forgotting!
- The crux of your manifesto is probably going to be something like "these characters are so good for each other" but it could be "these characters are terrible for each other" or "it's hot how dirtybadwrong this ship is, right?" and I will be equally happy. There's no bad reason for shipping!
- If you're a multishipper, please feel free to give me a multiship manifesto! Tell me why your fave is the best fandom bicycle. Muse on the many and increasingly unlikely ships between every member of the cast.
- Crossover ships extremely welcome.
Some things I'd love to know about your ship besides, you know, why you like it:
- What's your favorite scene for the pair? What scene do you think defines the characters/their relationship?
- If your canon has two or more mediums (books vs movie, anime vs manga, etc) you could compare the ship between the two (or more) mediums.
- If it's a juggernaut, what do you think the appeal is for most people? What are the big trends and common fanon assumptions?
- If it's a rarepair, are you the only one who ships it? What do you think the most likely get-together scenario is?
- What are your favorite fanworks?
Black Box - Jennifer Egan
AO3 matching tag: Black Box - Jennifer Egan
Fandom note: This is absolutely my favorite short story and I'm very jazzed to receive it. You can read it for free here at The New Yorker, unless you've read all of your free articles already this month, in which case you can read it via the Wayback Machine. It's about a lady spy!
For this fandom I am suspending my dissociation DNW, as it's a canonical part of the spy training in the story and I don't want any potential creators to feel they have to navigate around it. For the purposes of my "no unrequested noncon" DNW, I am requesting canon-typical levels of dubcon/noncon.
I DNW erotic fanworks; characters can have sex but I don't want porn/smut.
Requested character(s)/ship(s):

Black Box Mediums
Style - Black Box (Jennifer Egan)-style Thought Transcriptions
I love the style Black Box is written in and I would absolutely love to see something written in that style. I'd really be happy with just about anything you want to write! In addition to the second person POV, features of this style that I really like include:
- The numbered sections! If you're going to write something set during the events of the story, then I'd love to have you use the scene number to let me know exactly when you're breaking in. (Eg, if you're diverging from canon in the middle of section 16, number your first scene 16, your section scene 17, etc.)
- The short paragraphs! Originally this story was released via twitter and inside the logic of the story thoughts are only recorded for the record when the Narrator makes the conscious choice to turn the recording device on. I don't necessarily need you to stick to paragraphs that'd fit inside a tweet, though.
- The narrative distance! The Narrator is recording her thoughts, but she's doing so as professional instructions and a record of her mission, plus she's gone through and trimmed down extraneous thoughts after getting home. It creates this really interesting, restrained effect where we're definitely literally inside the Narrator's head, but at the same time the Narrator is concentrated almost entirely on giving instructions and practical information. It creates this great distance between the Narrator's narrated thoughts and the narrator's self, which is the sort of thing that really makes second person POVs shine. It leaves lots of room for the Narrator to know and think and feel things that she also simultaneously cannot know, think, or feel.
Audio and/or Visual - 'A Softer World' Remix
I've always loved A Softer World's format! I think there are several ways you could go with this and all of them would be equally wonderful:
- You could use stock photos and screenshots from other works to create images for Black Box.
- You could draw them yourself, if you're ambitious!
- Instead of using A Softer World's existing comics, you could use words from Black Box to create a new ASW-style comic.
- I would love to see Black Box's words juxtaposed over the fandom of your choice! One of the fandoms mention in the crossover, in my letter, elsewhere on my journal, or even just a fandom you like even if you don't know if I know it.
- Some visuals I'd love to see from the short story in ASW remix form include: the isolated beach, the speedboat trip, the Alpha Beauty clutching her baby, and the helicopter. (Full disclosure: I got several of these last round. But am I over loving them as visuals? No. Never. I am too greedy for them.)
Audio and/or Visual - Comic
I love comics! As with A Softer World remix above, I'd love something that uses quotes from the short story over visuals, whether you want to tell a new story or just illustrate part of the one we've already got. I think it would be really cool to see:
- A comic drawn from the Narrator's POV to mimic the thought transcription of the short story.
- A black and white comic! For some reason I always imagine Black Box in black and white.
- Extremely mundane and beautiful and slice-of-life-ish scenes contrasted with Black Box's somewhat dire narration.
- A mix of in-the-moment visuals and remembered visuals slipping in from the Narrator's thought transcription.
- Visuals: the isolated beach, the speedboat trip, the scene where the Narrator's Designated Mate has the Alpha Beauty leave but the Narrator stay for his conversation with the new host, the part 29 scene where the Alpha Beauty helps the Narrator up to the house after the Narrator is left behind by her Designated Mate, the Alpha Beauty clutching her baby, the Primal Roar, the helicopter, any and all other technology usage.
In-Universe Professional and Academic Documents - Interviews
I know not everyone will want to do thought transmissions, so I thought I'd give a second option! I'm always very fascinated by people who work very well with dialogue only, and I think that it would be very interesting to see the Narrator in a situation where she has to speak out loud instead of recording her thoughts.
I'd prefer a military/black ops-ish interview record (like, from her debriefing!) but some kind of judicial inquiry or end-of-life oral history project would also be really fun. This format would require having some kind of name for the Narrator, and please feel free to use whatever you want for that — an alias or identification number or a name you've picked out, wahtever you want!
Other Prompts for Black Box
Again, anything in this fandom would be wonderful! But in case you need something to go off of and the mediums haven't sparked anything...
- An AU where the Alpha Beauty is with the same spy program as the Narrator and they team up, or honestly just anything where they're allies. I really loved the exchange in part 29 where the Alpha Beauty calls the Designated Mate a bastard for leaving the Narrator behind and I just... want more!!
- How does the Narrator deal with coming home? How does her husband deal? Maybe the Narrator is encouraged to continue to use the thought transcriptions for therapeutic journaling reasons.
- What was training like for the Narrator? Does she help train further women when she gets home? Anything that handles what this program does before and after missions would just be great.
- How did Alpha Beauty end up where she is, doing what she does?
The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System
AO3 matching tag: 人渣反派自救系统 - 墨香铜臭 | The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System - Mòxiāng Tóngxiù
Fandom note: I love this dumb novel and I think it's a got great potential for unusual fanworks.
Requested character(s)/ship(s):
- Group Mobei-Jun/Shang Qinghua
- Group: Cang Qiong Peak Lords
- Group: Shen Yuan | Shen Qingqiu/Liu Qingge
- Group: Shen Yuan | Shen Qingqiu/Shang Qinghua
- Shàng Qīnghuá
- Shěn Yuán | Shěn Qīngqiū
Shipping note: If you're not into writing the SQQ parings I've requested, I wouldn't mind LBH/SQQ! I mostly love the pre-relationship stuff where LBH things SQQ hates him and SQQ thinks LBH is going to murder him. Please feel free to throw in any other canon ships/crushes/whatever you think would be a good fit, also.

SVSSS Mediums
Fandom - Ship Manifesto
I only nominated three ships, but I'd love a ship manifesto for any ship you like! The "Creator's Choice of Characters" section above has more info about what kind of ship manifestos I'd like to recieve, but it basically boils down to: why do you like the ship, and what do you think works about it both for the characters and for readers?
Also! I would actually love to receive an in-universe ship manifesto as written by any fan of Proud Immortal Demon Way.
Audio and/or Visual - 'A Softer World' Remix
I've always loved A Softer World's format! I think there are several ways you could go with this and all of them would be equally wonderful:
- You could use stock photos and screenshots from other works to create images for SVSSS.
- You could draw them yourself, if you're ambitious!
- Instead of using SVSSS's existing comics, you could use words from SVSSS to create a new ASW-style comic.
- Some visuals I'd love to see from the short story in ASW remix form include: Shen Qingqiu saving Liu Qingge, Luo Binghe being cast into the Endless Abyss, Luo Binghe being selected to join Qing Jing Peak, Yue Qingyuan's original death, the Halls of Delight, Fury, and Sorrow, Liu Qingge trying to get Shen Qingqiu's body back.
In-Universe Personal Documents - Letters
Style - Epistolary
Any kind of written communication would be welcome! Including:
- Emails between Airplane-Shooting-Towards-The-Sky and Peerless Cucumber
- Notes between the Peaks or between sects!
- Feel free to mix personal and professional letters and add in other in-universe stuff like excerpts from books or whatever.
In-Universe Media and Online - Map
I love maps! Something drawn by Airplane-Shooting-Towards-The-Sky or his fans for Proud Immortal Demon Way would be great, but so would something like maps from An Ding Peak showing the mountains, the other sects, the Demon Realm, etc.
Style - Non-Linear Narrative
Honestly I'm just very curious about this! Something told out of order sounds really interesting. Something where Shen Qingqiu or Shang Qinghua or both of them are aware of the narrative going in the wrong order would be cool too — maybe the System is loading things in the wrong order?
In-Universe Publication - Case Report
I don't actually know much about case reports and I'm sure the case reports in a cultivation novel would be a lot different from the ones we have, but nevertheless I think it's a great way to frame a story. My first thought was something about Shen Qingqiu's poisoning, but I also think Luo Binghe's struggle with Xin Mo would be neat if you're up for it.
In-Universe Publication - Work of Fiction
I'd love to read part of Proud Immortal Demon Way or fanfiction thereof; I'd also love to read some of The Resentment of the Chunshan. A full passage or several partial scenes would be equally appreciated.
In-Universe Publication - Wikipedia/Encyclopedia Entry
In-Universe Social Media and Communication - /r/IAmA post
In-Universe Social Media and Communication - Forum Thread(s)
What does Wikipedia have to say about Proud Immortal Demon Way? Did Airplane-Shooting-Towards-The-Sky ever do a Reddit AMA? What kind of forum discussions went on in the PIDW fandom?
Style - Second Person Point of View
Style - Unreliable First Person Narrator
I think this canon has lots of really great opportunities for both of these! Especially given how SQQ is forced to do things by the system and also especially given how many misunderstandings there are in canon. Frankly you practically can't turn around without running into a character who'd be an unreliable narrator.
Style - Spreadsheet
SQQ definitely is the kind of person who loves spreadsheets. I am not big-brained enough to know what kind of fic you'd make out of a spreadsheet, other than the spreadsheet fic I've already been given, so I am basically just requesting this because I am intensely curious what I might get next if someone wants to have a go at it!
Naruto
AO3 matching tag: Naruto
Fandom note: I'm not very familiar or very interested in the end of the series, but feel free to borrow whatever you need from it for your fic! Per usual I don't want any Boruto content, and also I should maybe mention I haven't read any of the light novels so details from those might confuse me.
Requested character(s)/ship(s):
- Group: Haruno Sakura & Uchiha Sasuke & Uzumaki Naruto
- Group: Haruno Sakura & Yamanaka Ino
- Group: Haruno Sakura/Hatake Kakashi
- Group: Mission Desk Ninja
- Group: Senju Tobirama/Uchiha Madara (Naruto)

Naruto Mediums
Audio and/or Visual - 'A Softer World' Remix
I've always loved A Softer World's format! I don't have anything very specific to add to this... I suppose, if you want to, I would love to see original art for this... but anime caps would also be great! Also, feel free to give me ASW remixes about any character, not just the ones I've requested.
Audio and/or Visual - Comic
I'd love a regular, narrative comic about whatever you want, but I'd also enjoy a comic with lyrics, poetry, or some other quote over top! I like comics that show missing canon scenes, comics with action, and comics with little jokes.
Here are some narrative ideas:
- I would love a WCE fight! Shippy or non-shippy — what was it like to watch Madara and Hashirama fight from the sidelines? Did Madara and Tobirama ever fight?
- I would love to see Sakura punching some enemies, with or without help from the team.
- Itachi is a great source of both potential laughs (did he have awkward teenage years while being a missing nin?) and angst (...everything else about him) and I would love either. What kind of missions did he do besides bijū hunting? When/if he got downtime as a ninja, how did he like to spend it? Did he ever imagine a happy ending for himself?
- Sakura and Sasuke discover Naruto is missing some very common information
- Tell me a visual tale of the mission desk ninja! What ninja do they hate the most and why is it probably Kakashi? Did they get in trouble for not checking Tazuna's story better? How did the administration change between Hiruzen's tenure, then Minato, then back to Hiruzen, then Tsunade, etc?
- What items do you think one of my requested characters carries around with them all the time/on missions? Do you think it's changed over time? I'm imagining an illustrated version of the kinds of photos that go up in this flikr group.
- 5 times something has happened (+ one time it didn't, if you want)
Audio and/or Visual - Lyricstuck (Any Fandom)
Audio and/or Visual - Vid
I love vids and I love lyricstuck! I don't have any particular/specific requests because if you want to create either of these mediums for me I will be over the moon to receive them.
If you want to try to pick music I already know and like, some of my favorites are: Gregory Alan Isakov, Lord Huron, alt-j, The Killers, Talking Heads, David Byrne & St. Vincent's collab album "Love This Giant", Florence + the Machine, Electric President, Spoon, Regina Spektor, and...probably more that I'm forgetting! If you want more I'm sure I could think some more up, but I like being introduced to new music so please feel free to just pick one of your faves that you're excited about.
In-Universe Professional and Academic Documents - Bingo Book Page
Self-explanatory! All these characters probably have Bingo Book pages. I'd especially love to see a comparison between different eras for the characters, though, if you're up to that.
In-Universe Professional and Academic Documents - Investigative Report
It's important for shinobi to be able to collect and streamline intel!
- Did anyone investigate the Uchiha Massacre? What about ROOT? I would love a canon divergence where someone blows the whole thing wide open, told via official report.
- Maybe a smaller problem, instead, like supplies going missing at the hospital, a mission going wrong, or a supply line being interrupted.
- OR an even smaller problem — a very serious report about Tsunade's favorite sake cup going missing or something?
In-Universe Professional and Academic Documents - Mission Debrief/Transcript
In-Universe Professional and Academic Documents - Mission Report
Mission hijinks!
- A Team 7 mission went off the rails so badly they have trouble filling out the normal paperwork.
- I don't imagine that the Akatsuki actually has formal mission report requirements beyond "Tell Pein what happened" but maybe Itachi was in the habit of submitting written reports when he joined.
- Someone has to try and fit their time travel, time loop, or dimension travel mission into a typical mission report.
- Naruto has a habit of taking on additional missions and clients whenever someone needs help, which always creates a mess.
In-Universe Professional and Academic Documents - Police Report
I have to admit I selected this purely based on my need for pre-Uchiha Massacre fic and no Uchiha Massacre fic. I honestly don't care which characters are involved? I'd be down for mostly OCs? I just want worldbuilding for the Konoha Military Police really really bad.
I do wonder if Tsunade was ever arrested, though.
Also, I guess there are probably civilian police forces out there, so a police report from a civilian POV about some ninja stuff would also be great.
Style - Choose Your Own Adventure
Style - Interactive Fiction
Style - Non-Linear Narrative
These just seem like fun! I think you can scroll my likes and previous letters for an idea of the kind of plots I like. Weird gen match ups tend to be my favorite.
One idea though — I'd be really interested in a non-linear narrative presented that way because it's about someone using Holding Door Mind Transmission to uncover memories about something out of order!
Fandom - Worldbuilding
Fandom - Meta
I'd love worldbuilding about:
- How the hidden village system works.
- What kind of internal departments you think Konoha has.
- The Konoha Military Police — either its founding or how you think it functioned OR how you think the village functioned without it.
- How various villages approach chūnin exams and genin teams.
- Character analysis
- Jutsu or sealing mechanics
- Any kind of textual analysis of the series itself. Which movie do you think was the best and why? Did you like or dislike the ending? Who's your favorite villain and why are they the best? Rank anime filler you've seen from worst to least worst! Complain about the timeline!
- Unlike other parts of this, I would actually be interested in Boruto stuff, if you've watched it and have opinions.
Fandom - Timeline of In-Universe Events
...speaking of the timeline, lmao.
- I would love a timeline about any period of canon! I know a couple of good timelines that cover all of canon (I think this one is probably the best/most well-sourced?) but I'd be interested in a detailed timeline that involves some amount of logical reasoning, guessing, or even headcanons on your part. Like, this is a form of worldbuilding I guess, but it just sounds...really interesting?
- Anything from events spanning several years to just a few days would be great — maybe the Pein arc or the Sand/Sound invasion?
- If you do want to make a timeline for the entire canon, I wouldn't turn my nose up at that!
- If you want to write an in-universe timeline of in-universe events, canon or non-canon, that sounds amazing and like it'd fit under missions or investigative reposts.
Harry Potter
AO3 matching tag: Harry Potter - JK Rowling
Fandom note: I would strongly prefer no details from the Fantastic Beasts movies and more mildly I have a soft spot for Epilogue, What Epilogue? fic, but neither of those are a deal breaker for me and you should use or discard pieces of canon as you see fit! I'm also a sucker for all kinds of fanon, worldbuilding, and HP tropes, so if it doesn't bring you joy to wonder if a spell is canon or whatever, don't sweat it. Finally, I am extremely unlikely to notice any difference between book or movie canon...basically just do whatever you want. I'm here for Lockhart being a horrible person.
Requested character(s)/ship(s):
- Gilderoy Lockhart
Shipping note: A great deal of things you could/are likely to write about Gilderoy Lockhart would take place during or before second year for Harry, Hermione, etc, and if that's the case I would prefer no shipping beyond the canonical crushes (eg, Ginny's embarrassing thing for Harry, lmao). If you're following one of my prompts that would make them older and you want a ship, I've leaned towards Harry/Hermione, Harry/Draco, Hermione/Ron, Harry/Luna but would welcome any combination of characters that you like! Or no pairings, that's fine too.
As far as shipping Lockhart goes, uh, honestly all I can think of is that he was probably up to hinky stuff in his personal life just like he was hinky in his professional life, and I don't mind that being explored. Non-hinky is fine too, though! If you have a rarepair, I would love to be convinced.

Harry Potter Prompts
I am interested in two kinds of fic here:
- Fic where Gilderoy Lockhart is the main character.
- Fic where Gilderoy Lockhart is the main subject, but maybe doesn't actually appear.
I was suddenly overcome with a passionate and surprising need for Lockhart fic while writing my letter for the last round of UFE, and I've been requesting him ever since because Gilderoy Lockhart is a very interesting character! An excellent and stunning character! And also a horrible person, which just makes him better. Lockhart annoys his coworkers, endangers his students, ruins lives, lies, steals, probably cheats when possible, focuses only on himself, gives absolutely ludicrously terrible advice........... what more could you want to write about? Also, his various crimes were never made public and his victims never found, informed, or compensated, which is such a wonderful dangling tread to pull.
If you're looking for direction on my favorite characters, you really can't go wrong with Hermione, Luna, Harry, Draco, Ron, Sirius, or the Weasley twins... but really I'm here for Lockhart content! I would be delighted to receive different characters, OCs, and/or extremely minor canon characters.
- An AU where Lockart doesn't get quite so fucked up by Ron's wand, so things are significantly more complicated in the summer before third year because Ron and Harry have to appear in court or something.
- An AU where someone else is their second year teacher and Lockhart comes to teach them when the Golden Trio is older and even more willing to cause trouble. Maybe during 5th or 6th year?
- An AU where Lockart never comes to teach at Hogwarts at all, but his crimes come to light anyway.
- Also a non-AU would be fine too! Maybe there was a canon-compliant hubbub about it that we just didn't hear about because Harry was at the Dursleys and then Sirius broke out?

- I absolutely want a chunk of text from one of Lockhart's books. PLEASE.
- Alternatively, someone could retrace Lockhart's steps while trying to uncover his crimes or help his victims.
All other mediums
- ..I know, it's really lazy compared to the other sections, but I am basically throwing things at the wall here to see what sticks!
- Please feel free to mix and match these requested freeforms to present a fic told in several different mediums.
- I'm interested in stuff set before, during, or after Lockhart's time teaching at Hogwarts — and canon divergences as suggested above — and I love OCs so feel free to create someone to write academic essays about Lockhart or to arrest him or to interview him or whatever if the canon characters don't cover all your bases.
- If you need suggestions, characters who I'd love to see have a hand in investigating, commenting, or witing include: Hermione, the Lovegoods & the Quibbler, Rita Skeeter, Snape, Draco, Harry, Fred and George, McGonagall.
- For "Letters to the Editor" I would love to see Molly write in to some publication that's previously published articles by Lockhart and chew them out, because I imagine she took the news pretty hard. Especially considering the news was probably delivered to her by Ron when he was explaining what happened to her.
- For the Obituary medium it's fine for Lockhart to be dead!
Gravity Falls
AO3 matching tag: Gravity Falls
Fandom note: I think I've seen/read most of the extra content for Gravity Falls, so if you want to write something that incorporates things from the web shorts or something that's fine! If you end up basing your work on something I haven't seen, I'm fine with that too.
Also I know that specific prompts for Hand Witch and Multi-Bear are thin on the ground except for in the comments section, but I just didn't have any extra prompts for them specifically in the other sections — they're part of the Gravity Falls Ensemble, after all! But just to make sure, I want to tell you that I really love all of the characters and will be thrilled no matter who you pick.
Requested medium: fanfiction
Requested character(s)/ship(s):
- Group: Hand Witch & Multi-Bear
- Gravity Falls Ensemble
Shipping note: A gen/family focus would be preferred to ship fic, for the most part, but mention of canon ships/crushes and canon-typical levels of romance would also be fine. Also, I would love for Hand Witch's romantic life to come up, actually! Maybe things worked out with that hot hiker.

In-Universe Publication - Advice Column
Characters who I think would give great (or "great") advice: Stan, Mabel, Ford, Hand Witch, Gideon's prison friends, Pacifica
Characters I'd love to see ask for advice: Multi-Bear, Lazy Susan, Marius von Fundshauser, Toot-Toot McBumbersnazzle (Blind Ivan), any of Pacifica's friends, Queen of the Manatees (somehow? maybe the Gravity Falls Gossiper has a really wide distribution), Gideon Gleeful, Ghost-Eyes, Sherif Blubs and/or Deputy Durland (which is a canon ship jsyk), and anyone from the list of unseen characters.
In-Universe Publication - Museum Exhibit Brochure
I'd love a museum brochure from the Gravity Falls Museum of History or from the Wax Museum of Mystery! If you're inclined to do so, having either annotated by a character would also be super fun.
In-Universe Publication - Newspaper Article
Please, god, I want to read more of the Gravity Falls Gossiper's amazing articles, please do this for me. Write an article based on one of the known article titles, make up a new one, give me excerpts from several... I love in-universe newspaper articles!
I'd also be interested in a newspaper article about what Stan and Ford get up to on the high seas post-canon!
In-Universe Publication - History Book
Gravity Falls history books must be WILD and I would so love to get some excerpts, especially if you'd be inclined to write about the founding of Gravity Falls and show the passage corrected with the new information discovered on Pioneer Day!
In-Universe Publication - Wikipedia/Encyclopedia Entry
In-Universe Social Media and Communication - Wikipedia Article Talk Page
What's the Gravity Falls Wikipedia article like? Is the Mystery Shack notable enough to have a page? Are there lots of fights in the comments? Does Ford struggle to understand the prohibition against original research? Does Stan regularly deface the page?
In-Universe Social Media and Communication - Yelp Reviews
Mystery Shack Yelp reviews leap immediately to mind, but I'd love to see reviews of other local Gravity Falls places, like Greasy's Diner, Gleeful's Auto Sale, Granny Sweetkin's Yarnball and the other tourist traps, Hoo-Ha Owl's Pizzamatronic Jamboree, etc.
I'd also love to see Stan (or other proprietors!) responding to comments.
In-Universe Publication - Advertisement
I'd love to see any advertisement Stan has ever made in an medium. Newspaper print adds, magazine spreads, transcripts of radio spots or infomercials, flyers he's put up, billboards... whatever you want! Other Gravity Falls advertisements would be great too — like for the Tent of Telepathy, maybe! Or the other tourist traps!
(Also if you're going pure text, 1k of advertisement might be hard? In which case throw in Yelp reviews or whatever else you want!)
Audio and/or Visual - Comic
I'd love a comic about pretty much anyone/anything! Slice-of-life or adventure, canon divergent or compliant, maybe exploring a missing scene or looking forward to the next summer after canon ends...I'd love something that explores Gravity Falls as a place or canon events through the eyes of the Gravity Falls locals, or something that digs into how weird Gravity Falls is but how normal that feels to people born and raised there.
For Hand Witch & Multi-Bear, I'd love to see a little comic about them meeting, haggling at the swapmeet, or maybe Hand Witch helping Multi-Bear when Multi-Bear is having problems with the Manotaurs. This is admittedly a really strange gen pair up but that's definitely part of the appeal — they're really different but also really strange, so seeing them be friends while each being their own kind of weird is really appealing!
Finally, an extremely optional prompt! I mean, I want to really stress that I am not expecting this, I just want to give you the option:
I requested both Hand Witch and Multi-Bear in Trick Or Treat in October and made reference to them maybe being neighbors in that letter. I received a WONDERFUL gift from cookinguptales, The Difference Between Us! If you like illustrating scenes from fics, I would love something based on cookinguptales' fic. They said it was alright for me to request this here.
Blue Castle - L. M. Montgomery
AO3 matching tag: Blue Castle - L. M. Montgomery
Fandom note: This is a romance novel that you can read for free here. It's about a woman who mistakenly thinks she only has a year to live and therefore enters into what's supposed to be a marriage of convenience.
For this exchange I would love things set in/focusing on/incorporating the canon setting of the novel — pre-WWI era Ontario — but I am also not extremely a history buff, very familiar with Canada, or at all likely to notice small anachronisms. If you want to go hogwild with research or simply know your stuff already I would love that and would enjoy footnotes or whatever, but if you want to take it easy that's okay too, since mostly I just like the old-timey aesthetic.
Requested medium: fanfiction
Requested character(s)/ship(s):
- Any or No Character(s) (Blue Castle - LMM)
- Group: Valancy Stirling/Barney Snaith
Shipping note: I really came out of the book loving Valancy/Barney so I'm not interested in anything that implies they didn't get together or broke up, but otherwise I am fine with other ships! For example, Valancy/Cecily that takes place before or concurrent with Valancy/Barney.

I would love to receive an ad for Redfern's Purple Pills! Magazine/newspaper ads or another type of advertising that matches the time period would be wonderful. I would also love to see what's on the outside of the bottles!
Audio and/or Visual - Comic
A comic about something that happened before, during, or after canon would be lovely. I would enjoy a comic that lays the novels words over images or using the novel's dialogue, but I would also enjoy a comic that takes liberties in adapting things to a visual format!
Here are a few ideas:
- If you love drawing nature, I would love something set while Valancy and Barney are out in the woods or on the lake or something! Maybe with John Foster excerpts?
- Valancy's drab life before the events of canon and the brightness and color of things afterwards
- The dust pile scene from Valancy's childhood.
- What's the honeymoon like?
- Cissy and Barney talk about Valancy before Cissy dies.
- Valancy meets that woman that broke Barney's heart back in the day.
Fandom - Meta
I've only read the book very recently so there's not anything I have a burning need to see meta about, but I would love to hear what you think! Formal or informal styles would both be fine — I'd enjoy a literary analysis, but I'd also enjoy 1k of bullet points mixed with memes or something!

I'm really interested in an outside POV of Barney and Valancy's whole thing or about Deerwood in general or...whatever! I'm just interested in how history will view the events of the novel and I think Barney and his father are notable enough that they (and therefore Valancy) would be written about.
A few ideas:
- Literary analysis of John Foster, or bibliographic information, or a combo of both if you want to write that kind of english essay where the author is definitely not dead!
- History book excerpts, papers, or wikipedia article about Redfern's Purple Pills, Barney, his father, Deerborn, John Foster, etc.
- Maybe something about Cissy — I think her death would have a lasting effect on Barney and Valancy, and I think between seeing Cissy's social isolation and Valancy having been the one to propose to Barney they might have been well on their way to becoming progressives, which considering Valancy's outspoken nature at the end of the novel and Barney's wealth might have lead to something very interesting! Or like, you know, at least funding tuberculosis research or contraceptives.

Fandom note: I’ll keep up with new episodes that come out during the writing period, but feel free to ignore them if you want. I haven't listened to any of the bonus content so I would prefer you not draw from that.
Also, I think the McElroys have been careful not to overlap Balance, Amnesty, and Graduation's universes, so I would consider doing so a crossover. I think there may be some small exceptions (the goof about Clint McElroy the janitor, maybe?) but, well, I would really like things to stay as separate as possible! I like each one as its own thing, despite having piled them all in here like this.

Style - First Person Plural Point of View
I think a fic from the point of view of the Gary hivemind would be really interesting! Pretty much any direction you want to take it in is fine — I'm curious to know if you think they've noticed anything weird about the school, how they get along with any of the other students/professors, what it's like to be a series of statues of indeterminate number and sentience, and if Pocket Garys or Outside Garys every feel weird about not getting to hang around inside with everyone else.
Fandom - Worldbuilding
I think TAZ worldbuilding is really fun because there are a lot of goofs to think way too deeply about! I'd love to know what you think is actually up with all the Garys, and especially the "Dark Gary" and all the other goofs the McElroys do about how the Garys are basically the internet kind of.

One of the TAZ bits about Firbolg having to take an accounting class made me weep with laughter so hard I had to stop washing the dishes and pause the episode. It's just SO FUNNY, and I think the thing that really really does it for me is that you can tell Justin McElroy has actually gone out and done a bunch of research about accounting so that he can take this joke very, very seriously. Like, it would be really easy for it to be a cheap joke about the Firbolg not understanding, but instead the Firbolg is learning! Adapting! Becoming a competent accountant even though this personal property thing seems really fake to him! Anyway, overall, yes, what I would love out of these mediums is for you to make me something really funny that follows canon's tradition by being so funny because it takes things very, very seriously.
In-Universe Publication - Trade/Professional Publication
The hero/villain/accountant/sidekick/henchperson professions all seem really interesting! I would love to know what their trade magazines or whatever are like. In the case of accountants, I'd love to know if the accounting professor who's been teaching the Firbolg (sorry, the professor's name is escaping me!) has written up and shared anything about that.
In-Universe Professional and Academic Documents - Classroom Observation/Teacher Performance Notes
I'm dying to know what the teachers think of our protagonists!

Given the making-people-forget-things magic that's going on, I'd love something that explores that via second person! Or uses second person in some other way.
In-Universe Social Media and Communication - Advice Column
In-Universe Social Media and Communication - /r/legaladvice post
Okay, "/r/legaladvice" in this world is probably turning to the nearest Gary and asking Gary to ask some lawyers for free advice, I guess, but like...whatever bullshit worldbuilding you have to do to give them access to a free legal advice bulletin board or whatever is cool, I would just love some /r/legaladvice-style advice!
In terms of other kinds of advice columns, I think the Firbolg giving accounting advice would be funny but anything would be fine! I like advice columns about both personal and professional problems.

Anything that explores the world would be just so wonderful.

Audio and/or Visual - Lyricstuck (Any Fandom)

If you want more I'm sure I could think some more up, but I like being introduced to new music so please feel free to just pick one of your faves that you're excited about.

Some of these people are likely to do the investigating, others of them are really likely to end up on the wrong side of the law. Some of them are likely to do both! I really love this format and would be happy with any combination of characters+like list things, although some of the tags I've requested come with some obvious prompts:
- Agent Stern/Barlay might be my favorite TAZ ship because....FBI Agent/Bigfoot!!! And also they cohabitate in a bed and breakfast! I'd love excerpts from Agent Stern's reports or a report about them getting into trouble with some other brank of law enforcement.
- Necromancy leaves all kinds of chances for Barry to end up on the wrong side of the law and I am into all of them. I would especially love something about him leaving dead clones of himself all over the place. Maybe Kravitz could investigate, or maybe a more mundane law enforcement officer cottons on to the fact that a bunch of identical dudes keep dying?
- What kind of things did Angus investigate before canon? What about after?
- Tell me a tale of Ned evading the law.
- Who investigated the poisoning and what did they conclude?
- The one where the Tres Horny Boys get arrested for all that murdering.
- ...literally anything else!
Audio and/or Visual - Comic
A comic about something that happened before, during, or after canon would be lovely. I would enjoy a comic that lays the novels words over images or using the show's words. I really love seeing people's character designs for TAZ so I'll really enjoy a comic no matter what the subject matter!

I do sometimes download my gifts or read them on mobile, however, so I appreciate when unconventional works use tricks like display:none (explained in this tutorial in the "What do I do if the Creator's Style is hidden?" section) which also makes works with HTML/embedded pictures more accessible!
- curses
- garbage-tier magical items
- extra senses
- worldbuilding around learning/doing magic
Ship likes:
- Anything on my general likes list is excellent in shipfic too of course. Also, I am a pretty big fan of understated shipfic — if you just put the characters together and show that they care about each other then I don't even need kissing or anything, really, which I think can work well for fandoms where characters are frequently in life-or-death situations or need to be professional. Not that kissing isn't welcome! Just, I am extremely easy to please on the "Is this shippy enough?" front.
- Slow burn, friends to lovers, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers — The slower the better. FWB-to-lovers is also great.
- Characters who have history with each other — established relationships are good, but what I really love is feeling like the characters know each other well and think about each other often. In characters who are already friends, that probably looks like, say, knowing what kind of coffee the other person likes. In characters who were enemies, they probably know each other’s weaknesses and faults really well.
- Arguments where each person thinks the conversation is about something subtly different — I mean, misunderstandings in general are great for tension, but I like it when characters are trying to communicate but they’re coming from perspectives so different that they can’t even argue without clarification.
- Casual physical affection — a lot of my ships involve people who have massive or very specific personal bubbles, so seeing the way the characters touch each other when they’re not already in Kissing Mode is really great.
- Pining, especially longstanding they-could-never-want-me pining — the id wants what the id wants and what the id wants is characters with low self-worth. Bonus points if it's tied up in some kind of misunderstanding about their relationship (eg, "They hate me!" or "I'm ugly!") or their differing rank/species/wealth/etc.
- When their hands touch and other very understated moments of romantic or sexual tension — aaaaaaa I don't even have words for how much I love this, if you include it I will wail happily at you about it in my comment, possibly at length.
Smut likes
I don't usually request smut but if you want to include it then I don't mind. I know that that's kind of an extremely bland and unenthusiastic way to start out but it's, uh, really honest, at least? I'm usually after character interaction, plot, or worldbuilding with my requests, but getting a sex scene along with other stuff definitely wouldn't ruin a gift. Overall, I want you to feel free to write sex if you would enjoy doing so/if you think the fic will be better with it! I'm generally just enthused by my writer getting to have fun writing something they're proud of, you know?
There are obviously some things I do like, and I know some folks really enjoy tailoring their fic (i'm one of them!) so:
- Extremely emotionally charged sex — No matter what kind of sex acts they do, I really love when the sex has a lot of feelings involved, especially if it's sad emotions or desperation or part of some hurt/comfort or whump.
- Sex that's very directly relevant to the plot or character arcs — I love sex scenes where I learn more about a character or relationship. Is 'character driven smut' a thing? Because if so, that's my favorite. And also porn with plot.
- anal and pegging, PIV, frottage, intercural, handjobs, all kinds of fingering, strapons, toys
- overstimulation and edging, orgasm delay/denial
- bondage — handcuffs, spreader bars, honor bondage, and honestly pretty much anything in the general category of restricting someone's movement during sex
- praise kink, loyalty kink, hurt/comfort, trust and sex otherwise overloaded with emotion
- magic/super powers being used in fun and inventive ways
- clothing/uniform kink, half-clothed sex, one naked and the other not.
- hair petting, cuddling, lazy mornings in bed, touch starvation
- size difference, size kink, come inflation, large insertions
- pregnancy, including mpreg — impregnation porn and pregnant sex welcome, eggpreg and het mpreg are also fine. And while we're talking about it, narratively speaking I love a fic where being pregnant/mpregnant is upsetting because the character didn't plan for it, thinks their partner doesn't want it, conceived in a nonconsensual or dubiously consensual way, can't afford it, etc, all of which could be comforted away with or without sex. I'm not much for birthing scenes.
- for noncon: humiliation, bruises/rough sex, manipulation, forced feminization (of men or women!), public/group sex, X made them do it
- probably other things that I'm forgetting! I'm pretty open to a bunch of things that aren't on the above list or mentioned in my DNWs, and if you're unsure if you should include something please feel free to ask through the mods.
Art likes
- soft colors, and also specifically moss green and all shades of purple, especially for slice-of-life and domestic pictures
- lineless art and thick lines and messy lines!
- dramatic lighting, especially if the moment is tense or dangerous
- cartoony styles
- realistic styles
- movement and foreshortening
- crosshatching, stippling, visible brushstrokes, and other techniques that let me see what the artist physically did with their pencil/brush/digital equivalent
- that thing where it's all back and white or greyscale except for one (1) color
- art that explores the minutiae of a character's life, like what exactly is on their bookshelf or in their bag
